We caught up with Italian indie-pop solo artist HER SKIN recently....

Her Skin released a brand new single ‘Suitable’ on the 22nd July, via WWNBB. Originally from Modena, Italy, Her Skin is 25-year-old singer songwriter, Sara Ammendolia. ‘Suitable’ is very personal song and is extra special as she wrote the song with her dad, who is also a musician. This is the third single taken from her forthcoming album ‘I Started A Garden’, that will be released later this year.

Tell us about the meaning behind your latest single release 'suitable’?

“Suitable" is a love song. I wrote it as a reminder that love should be something natural and spontaneous and not something that you can force, so if something really doesn’t work it’s okay to let it go. And I know that this might seem normal and obvious but believe me, it’s not!

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

I have so many! To name a few: Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier, Adrianne Lenker, Phoebe Bridgers…

What does a typical day in the studio look like for you?

There’s no typical day in the studio basically. I’m not one of those people that can easily record an album in a week. I get stressed and confused, and I change my mind so many times, so it’s important that I have time and space to think. Luca, Matteo and me usually meet at the studio for two or three hours after work, two or three nights per week, we work together, and then we go home and listen back to what we recorded and change things if we don’t like them. No rush, no big deadlines. I am really grateful for having met them!

How long have you been writing songs for?

I think I wrote my first songs when I was 16 so that would be 10 years ago! “Cut out the flowers” is a song I wrote in that period and I think about that every time I play it live at my shows, I love it so much.

Aside from music, what do you get up to in your spare time?

I love reading, hiking and traveling. When I’m not working random day jobs I try to travel as much as possible even if it’s just for a two or three day trip! And I always make sure I have lots and lots of books with me.

Many thanks for taking the time to talk to us today
