We caught up with Portland based 4 piece THE PRIDS for a quick chat....
The Prids are a 4 piece Post-rocky-noisey-pop band hailing from Portland, Oregon, Henry Rollins said this about them "The Prids are not only a really good band but they are also very nice people", so who were we to argue, we caught up with Mistina La Fave and David Frederickson for a quick chat about their favourite producers, a dream band lineup and their favourite movies, here's how we got on....

How long have you been playing?
ML - We started playing in the 90s
Do you remember the record that made you want to pick up an instrument?
DF - Treepeople - Guilt Regret and Embarrassment
ML- Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Given the choice, who is your dream producer?
DF - Jeff Lynne
ML- Gil Norton. But we are super happy with Sean Flora who we worked with on our latest album “Do I Look Like I’m In Love?”
If you had to pick your dream line up, who would it feature?
(We determined this one together!) Johnny Marr on guitar, John Doe on bass (if he can’t make it Christian Hurd) Casey Logan on drums and vocals. If he’s not available we’ll have Phil Collins step in.
When was the last time a piece of art shocked you, and what was it?
ML - I found Gerhard Richter’s paintings shockingly impressive. From far away you could swear they were photographs.
Can you pick out a song that has a different meaning to you now opposed to when you first wrote it?
DF - We have a song called “Shadow and Shadow” which was originally written about a friend’s suicide from my childhood. But when I sing it now I always think about Mistina and our friendship.
When it comes to playing live, do you find it easy to get lost in the moment or do you become very self-aware?
ML - I’m self aware when I go on stage but that quickly wears off and I get lost in the show. Depending on the set we choose determines how soon I can lose myself. Sometimes in the first song.
DF - I usually lose myself after the first song and then the next thing I know it’s over.
Could you envision yourself working in a different artistic medium, and if so, what would it be?
ML - I wanted to be a painter, but I suck at it.
DF - It’s hard for me to imagine not being a writer. But I have developed a love for photography.
Pick two out of four; if you had to select a film, an album, a piece of art or a book that had an impact on you, what were they?
DF - The movie “Jaws” is still deeply moving to me. I could go on for hours about it but people rarely want that. Reading Irving Stone’s “Lust for Life” at 16 left me no choice but follow my passions even if they led me to madness.
ML - In my youth I watched Twin Peaks when it was on network tv. And that began my long time love of David Lynch. I love his movies and albums. David introduced me to Kurt Vonnegut and my favorite book of his is Sirens of Titan. Our last album “Chronosynclastic” is a reference to that novel.
