We chat to legendary UK rap duo TOO MANY T's ahead of MUCKY WEEKENDER festival
Ahead of the Mucky Weekender Festival which takes place over the weekend of 9/10th September, we caught up rap duo TOO MANY T’s and chatted about their recently released 3rd studio album, getting your ‘free corn’ (read on to see what I’m taking about! and their top three tips to surviving a ‘mucky weekend’! For all of this and more, read on….
You’re playing at Mucky Weekender in September, I’m guessing that Barry Ashworth may have been involved in booking you?
Yes of course - we met Barry right at the start of our careers; playing at a Bestival sponsored Replay Jeans in-store, it was mad - one of our first shows actually and Barry was DJing at it. He was well impressed and said lets do a tune. 5 years later we did two - on his album 'Crazy Diamonds'.
Do you know yet which stage, time and day you’re playing?
We're in the main tent on the Saturday - around 6pm I believe!
What is the STRANGEST/FUNNIEST/WEIRDEST thing you have ever seen at a music festival?
Watching Missy Elliot at Bestival and someone was throwing popcorn out everywhere and had a sign on her saying 'Get your FREE CORN' - whilst Missy was playing Get Yer freak on. It really got me.
As well as Mucky Weekender, you’re also playing at Farmfest, Boardmasters and Camp Bestival, when it comes to music festivals, do you have your favourites?
Yes of course. Coming together for music is always good - but Shambala, Shindig and WOMAD are personal faves - they've perfected it. Fuson in Berlin is madnessa and BoomTown is just unreal in terms of production. Mucky has an unrivalled vibe for such a young festival - it's gunna do so well long term!
I have seen you a couple of times over the years at various festivals and you always put on a killer live show, do you tend to vary the set from show to show or do you have a proven approach that seems to work every time?
Yeah it changes every time we release something - we also hooked up with World Champ DJ Mr Switch recently - so the set changed a lot then too! We just dropped our 3rd album so its really different these days,. But always crowd participation and some unexpected set-pieces are a must!
You have an incredible range of colourful merchandise available from your online store, who came up with the designs?
Too many designers for too many tees - we're dropping lots of new tees soon! Check the website :)
Your 3rd album ‘All Good Good’ has landed – How does it feel to be the creators of 3 incredible albums?
Ahhh thanks :) You know what - its awesome as each is full of so many memories and a stamp in time - just something cool we'll always be able to share with friends and family later - extremely proud of everything we've released :)
You’re all over social media, is there one channel that is the best place to keep up to date with your musical movements?
Instagram or Facebook are the go-to - we've started popping on Tiktok recently too for the young’uns!
Finally, music festivals can be ‘mucky’ affairs, please tell me your top 3 festival survival tips
- Expect to get lost - and when you do - enjoy it!
- Plan your intake wisely - of drink, food and anything else - and try stick to the plan!
- Leave your problems at home - you are living in utopia for a few days :)
