We chat to Simon Hampshire from Totnes band HEARING AID BEIGE ahead of THE GREAT ESTATE FESTIVAL....

Ahead of the Great Estate Festival which takes place at Scorrier House in Cornwall over the Jubilee Bank Holiday Queen’s extra long Coronation thingy weekend, we chatted to a wonderful band called HEARING AID BEIGE. We chatted about loads of things including musical influences, an amusing festival story involving a band member and their top three tips to survive a music festival, for all of this and more, read on….

Please tell me about the band, who is in it and what you do...

Hearing Aid Beige is a five piece band consisting of the following:

  • Simon Hampshire (guitar and vocals)

  • Tommy Williams (keyboard and backing vocals)

  • Jimi Stewart (guitar and backing vocals)

  • Aubrey Simpson (bass)

  • Jock Simpson (drums)

When did you start your musical journey?

In 2017

You're based in Totnes, Devon, do you have to travel in order to enjoy live music?

Yes, we often travel to see shows, but there is a good music scene and community in Totnes.

What style of music do you play?

Devon hammock rock, mixed with blue-eyed soul.

Who would you say are the band's musical influences?

Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Connan Mockasin, Mac Demarco, Ariel Pink, Parcels, Kurt Vile

Do you know what day/time/stage you're playing at the Great Estate Festival?

Sat 3rd June @ 5.45pm (We believe it’s on the Stage on the Green)

What can the audience expect from your live show?

Swooning songs with lots of hooks and super relaxed vibes.

The bill is looking pretty good for this year, who else would you recommend the festival goers make a beeline for over the weekend?

The People's String Foundation, Manic Street Preachers, Thomas Ford.

There seem to be more Cornish festivals popping up all over the county these days, what is it about them that keeps people coming back year after year?

We miss the Port Eliot Festival and Knee Deep! Cornish festivals are great because of the scale and of course the amazing location.

Tell me a funny story about a festival/show that you've attended in the past....

Aubrey tends to sleep in a tent with nothing in it - no roll mat, no sleeping bag, no nothing.

Give me 3 bands or artists that you would like to headline at your own festival (you can choose ANY band/artist dead or alive)

Connan Mockasin, Parcels and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard.

Please tell me about any new music that you have in the pipeline and when can we expect to hear it?

We just released a new single (20th May) called California Cross and we have our debut album due for release in October this year.

Lastly, tell me your top three festival survival tips?

  1. Smart shoes

  2. Emergency fruit

  3. Swimming shorts

We’d like to thank Simon from the band for sparing his time to chat to us and we wish them every success at the festival and for future endeavours. To keep up to date with their musical happenings, head to their socials below….
