We chatted to a Truro based singer songwriter called SIMONE ROCHELLE about her forthcoming appearance at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL in August....
As you’re probably aware by the amount of features on my site about the legendary BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL, we are chatting to artists and bands who have been selected to appear at this years festival which takes place in Watergate Bay (just outside of Newquay) from 7th - 11th August.
Appearing at the Net Loft stage on Thursday 8th August at 2pm is a wonderfully talented local lady called SIMONE ROCHELLE, we chatted to her about returning to play once again, seeing one of her favourite bands and whether she’ll be indulging in a cream tea or two, here’s how we got on….
How did you feel when you heard that you were going to be playing at Boardmasters Festival this year?
I felt appreciated as a musician and songwriter as my music was really being valued and being given the opportunity to play one of the most famous iconic festivals ever to date in Cornwall was amazing! I've been going to Boardmasters for many years from my teenage years and to be on the other side of the stage doing what I love was like a dream! It was very surreal but amazing!!
Please take this opportunity to sell yourself/yourselves and convince people WHY they need to make sure they’re in the Net Loft when you’re performing….
My voice can be described as powerful, heartfelt and oozing raw emotion and it combines unique tones and sounds. I have played across the south west at a variety of festivals including Boardmasters Festival, Porthleven Food Festival, Newquay Beer Festival as well as many more locations that are famous for hosting quality live music. I have also appeared on Josh Curnow's radio songwriters show.
I hope to be releasing new music very soon after I have spent a serious amount of time exclusively recording some original music. I have a very strong and supportive fanbase that stretches as far as America!
You can catch me performing on the Iconic Net Loft Stage at Boardmasters Festival on Thursday 8th August from 2.00-2.30pm, just remember to check out my quirky stage attire and my rather eccentric shoes!
Have you played there or attended the festival as a punter before? (If so please let me know when you performed/attended)
I played the Net Loft stage in 2018 on Wednesday afternoon, the audience engagement and interaction was immense, it was clear to see that the place was full of avid music lovers!
The festival attracts over 50,000 people every year, what do you think it is that keeps people coming back time and time again?
I believe It's the musical environment, the amazing location overlooking the sea views of Newquay and of course the amazing acts that come down every year to make this festival as good as it is!
There are some pretty incredible acts performing this year, tell me some of the bigger names that you’re keen to check out….
I'm hoping to check out an incredible band called THE HUNNA who play edgy rock infused with raw grungy sounds, heavy beats and riffs and epic choruses - so go check them out!!
A lot of the performers on the Net Loft stage this year are from Devon and Cornwall, how would you describe the music scene where you come from?
I would describe Cornwall's music scene as a very varied mix which ranges from Folk, Rock and Ska, created by people of all ages from all walks of life. We really do have a mixed bag from some talented musicians who produce some incredible sounds!
Whilst in Cornwall, I hope you’ll be partaking in a cream tea, a walk on the beach and maybe a surfing lesson?
I love a good Cream tea! You can’t beat clotted cream…..
Lastly, please tell us where people can keep up to date with you on social media….
You can keep up to date with me here;
We’d like to thank Simone Rochelle for taking the time to chat to us and we look forward to catching her perform on Thursday 8th August at 2pm on the Net Loft stage, why not grab a drink and head over?
