We chatted to Stockport based singer songwriter RORY WYNNE in Exeter recently....

We arrived at the allotted time to chat to Rory Wynne ahead of his performance in Exeter as part of the NME tour alongside CABBAGE and BLOSSOMS, imagine our horror when we heard he was still sound-checking at 7pm, doors opened at 7:15pm and he was on stage at 7:30....were we going to get any time with him? read on to find out....

It was back in 2014 when we chatted to Rory the last time, if you'd like to see what we chatted about, please click HERE..... Fast forward 3 years and we were in Exeter, waiting for him to come off stage from sound-checking so we could ask him a few questions ahead of him taking to the stage for real.

His tour manager advised that we had 5 minutes and Rory had to change into his stage wear for the evening so there was only one thing for it, I would have to chat to him whilst he was getting changed.....in the back of his van!

Here's how we got on.

Imagine the scene, Rory is stood inside the back of his van getting changed whilst I stand awkwardly, shielding him from view whilst holding my voice recorder and try to chat to him!

Rory, we chatted to you way back in 2014 and I asked you about your The One Before The Next One album which you said you’d recorded in your bedroom as it was the quietest room in the house, are you still a bedroom musician or have you moved onto studios now?

The EP that I just released, the first single (Star in the Sky) was recorded with James Skelly (frontman of The Coral), the other 3 were produced in my bedroom, it’s still the quietest room in the house!

Describe your music for me using just 3 words

Sexy, swagalicious tunes!

What is the music scene like in Stockport?

To be honest with you, there’s not much of a scene, there’s no venues for a start! Most Stockport bands just play in Manchester, it’s just me and Blossoms left in Stockport now!

Do you see Blossoms much back in Stockport?

Not really as they’re always on tour!

You’ve been on the road with Cabbage and Blossoms for a while now, how has it been so far?

It’s been really good fun, all the crowds have been really up for it!

Any places that really stand out so far?

Liverpool was amazing, a real up for it crowd and the venue was really nice too!

I notice you’re not playing Manchester on this tour?

No, it was originally a Blossoms tour and as they’re playing the Castlefield Bowl in the Summer (where I’ll be supporting), they would have played Manchester twice in quite a short space of time so it was missed off these dates.

You mention Music, Football & Tea as your ‘Favourites’ on Facebook, please expand….

Okay, I like music with attitude, Manchester Utd and a great cup of PG Tips!

Would you rather live with a singing dog or a gorilla that does sign language?

The gorilla as the dog’s already singing!

You’ve been on the road as part of the NME tour, any amusing stories from the last few dates?

I fell over on a road in Brighton….

Was alcohol involved?

Nope……okay there was!

You’re playing Glasgow on April 1st any April Fools day pranks lined up?

I want to go onstage dressed as Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers!

Which festivals are you playing this year?

Kendal Calling, Live at Leeds and The Great Escape, there are more but they’re not confirmed yet.

You recently released the What Would Rory Wynne Do EP, any plans to release more music this year?

I’m looking to release another EP in May and then maybe another in October….

Rory had managed a complete change of clothes (including socks) in the few minutes that we were talking to him, we left him to get his head together ahead of seeing him onstage just 10 minutes later!
