BANTER - We chatted to WARD THOMAS after their stunning set at Beautiful Days Festival in Exeter....

I think that Catherine and Lizzie (Ward Thomas) thought that I was stalking them, we've seen them live about 4 times now and have chatted to them on each occasion, be it in Exeter or London when we caught up with them at the Radio 2 Festival in a Day in Hyde Park in 2015. We heard that they were appearing at Beautiful Days festival and we thought it would be nice to chat with them after their brilliant set, here's how we got on....

So, I turned on the telly box yesterday morning just before I headed off to Beautiful Days Festival and I see you two on the 'Lorraine' show couch having a chat with Gaby Roslyn and playing a track, how was it?

It was great, we really enjoyed it, did you see us on BBC Breakfast?

I don't watch a lot of normal TV at all, I just seem to watch a bunch of TV shows from time to time

We're much the same, we're big fans of Netflix, you just watch what you want, when you want!

Have you seen 'Stranger Things'?

No but we've heard great things about it, definitely one to add to the list!

So, you've just come off stage, what a set, you had the entire tent singing along!

Yes, a great experience, one to remember! I was worried about the sounds as all we could hear from the stage were the drums....

Don't worry, it sounded great!

Which other festivals have you played this year?

We played Glastonbury which was amazing, we played Camp Bestival most recently, they all seem to be in the West country!

Which ones would you say you enjoyed most this year?

In a way they're all amazing, they all offer a certain something, the setting, the other bands playing, the weather, Beautiful Days is great but yes, they all have a certain something about them, it wouldn't be fair to pick just one!

What do you like most about festivals?

One thing we've noticed about them is that most people who come along have a 9-5 job and they arrive and they just let loose, dancing around, wearing little or even no clothing, covered in glitter, it's as if they're free! This brings the BEST audience along with it, everyone's up for a great time, loads of cheering, we LOVE festivals, such a different vibe to a normal show.

What do you dislike about festivals?

Probably the mud but fingers crossed, we've not had that much this year, the loos can be a bit of a minefield but the ones backstage always seem to be looked after a little better!

What are your top three tips to surviving a music festival?

Wellies and a raincoat (especially in the UK), be in a good mood, have fun, drink lots of water BEFORE the show and then lots of alcohol AFTERWARDS and just take it all in, there's so many different things happening, it's so easy to miss things, just go where you want to and stumble upon new things, new bands and sample as much as you can!

Do you tend to find audiences behave differently at festivals compared to regular shows?

Definitely, on tour you get so many different types of venues, seated, standing and this has such a difference to the vibe that you get from the show, it also depends on what night the gig is on, if it's a Monday and everyone has work the next day, you're not going to see as much hair being let down as you would on a Friday or a Saturday. Festivals are always over a weekend so you can guarantee that the majority of people aren't getting up for work the next day!

Who else at Beautiful Days are you looking forward to seeing?

The Proclaimers are just like us (twins) so they'll be great I'm sure, we'll be singing along for sure! Our Mum is obsessed by the show 'Sunshine on Leith' so she'll be gutted that she's going to miss it being performed live!

Please describe Beautiful Days 2016 in just 3 words

Fun, Festive, Laid Back and Great, Atmospheric, Colourful

Your new album is out on Sept 2nd, where are you releasing it?

UK and Ireland initially

You're touring the new album in October, we'll definitely be at the Exeter date!

That's the last show of the tour, it's going to be so much fun!

Cool, we'll stick around and party into the night with you!

Any overseas dates planned this year?

We'll be heading to Ireland at the end of October and into November but nothing planned further afield at the moment, please keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information as it breaks!

We'd like to thank Catherine and Lizzie for taking their time to chat to us when they could have been spending time with their two cute dogs who had come along to the festival with them (see the picture at the top of the feature), we wish them every success with the new album and look forward to catching them live in October when they tour.
