We met up with Liam from CANCER BATS prior to their appearance at DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL....

Having seen Cancer Bats a couple of years ago in Exeter, Steve was keen to meet up with the driving force of the band and have a chat before their set at this year's Download Festival....

Liam joked how the rest of the band don't do interviews as they were too wild and needed to be caged before a gig, whether this was true or not, we all had a laugh thinking about them prowling about backstage, occasionally rattling the bars and giving a few grunts and roars to the crew.

He explained how stoked he was to meet so many old pals and how he sees a gig as one big riot & party!

We discussed at length his belief in the need to reflect on performance, past mistakes and desire in order to continually push themselves to improve further.

He painted a picture of real strength in the band’s relationship, the trust in giving feedback in order to ‘call each other out’ during their collaborative effort to make music and to challenge themselves whilst remember why the fans love what they do.

As a band with an international following Liam describes how he loves to bring Canadian ideas to the rest of the world. He talked about how the harsh climate of a Canadian City and the multitude of art & culture it produces enabled the last album to be made and inspired the track ‘Winterpeg’.

Liam also proclaims his love of dirt bike and motorcycles.

Finally, He loved learning a new word ‘Janners’ (slang for locals) for his upcoming gig in Steve’s home town of Plymouth and promised to use it as long as it didn’t result in him getting beaten up.
