We spend a 'day in the life of' Paris based multi-instrumentalist and producer SILLY BOY BLUE....

Silly Boy Blue (aka Ana Benabdelkarim) is a young singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Paris, who started her music career in the band Pégase.

Ana now embodies her music through her solo work, choosing to name her project ‘Silly Boy Blue’ after the David Bowie song that tells the story about a boy who breaks all the rules.

With her new single, ‘The Fight’ out today, we thought it would be a great idea to spend a day with Ana to see what she gets upto….

Wake up routine/Preparations for the day

I wake up around 8:30/9:00AM, and I start working with some coffee quite immediately.

I don’t really like mornings, so it’s the best way for me to be involved in interesting things and avoid going back to bed.

I answer some emails, make some calls or start new projects until 11 or 12, then, I can take of my pyjamas and act like a grown up, not a teenager in her couch ha ha!

Lunch/Mid Afternoon

There are different afternoons: sometimes I’ve got some studio sessions, sometimes it’s promo time, sometimes I’ve got to rehearse for a future live show, sometimes I’ve got a meeting with my team… And when I’m not busy, I just turn off my phone and write some songs on the afternoon.

But to be honest, that doesn’t happen that much at the moment.

With two months until my debut album is released, I’m most likely trying to duplicate my body to be at two different places at the same time!

End of working day

I like to walk a bit, especially if I’ve been inside all day.

Next to my apartment, there’s a cemetery called Père Lachaise, I usually go there because it’s quiet, wide, and peaceful. I can stay for hours, I just need my headphones and some music. Sufjan Stevens for fits the mood perfectly with a walk in this place.

Evening

I tend to say that the evening is my second day at the moment.

During the day, I do the things I have to do with other people because they’re awake, at night, I do my own stuff. I write some songs, I try all the new plugins I’ve been downloading, I learn how to do this or that on Ableton, I try out new stuff on the piano… until I’m satisfied.

Sometimes it happens at midnight, sometimes at 6AM.

Luckily, I don’t need much sleep!

Bedtime

I dread this moment because I know I’ll think about so many things until I fall asleep, and mostly unpleasant things!

I know I should meditate, or do something about it, but for now, I just listen to some music until I’m asleep.

We’d like to thank Ana for sharing her day with us, as I said above, her new track ‘The Fight’ is out right now. This track is part of Silly Boy Blue’s debut album Breakup Songs which will be released on Friday 18th June 2021.
