We spoke to an incredibly talented acoustic soul singer songwriter called JOE HURWORTH about his appearance at this summers BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL....
You’ll be well aware by now that we are running interview features with artists and bands that are appearing at this year’s BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL in August. May I take a moment or two to introduce an acoustic soul singer songwriter from Cornwall, he’s called JOE HURWORTH and we chatted to him about how he felt when he got the email confirming that he was booked for the festival, some of the other acts appearing on the bill and whether he’ll be indulging in a cream tea and a spot of surfing, here’s how we got on….
How did you feel when you heard that you were going to be playing at Boardmasters Festival this year?
I felt really excited when I heard that I was going to be playing at Boardmasters because I love the festival and I played last year and had an amazing time and got a great response so it’s lovely to be back again.
Please take this opportunity to sell yourselves and convince people WHY they need to make sure they’re in the Net Loft when you’re performing….
You need come to The Net Loft Stage on Wednesday the 7th of August to watch me play from 8-8:30pm, my catchy soulful original tunes will be sure to warm your hearts and have you singing along in no time!
I have a new single coming out next month called ‘Following Your Heart’ which you will be able to listen to on Spotify & iTunes along with my recent E.P titled ‘Creativity’ and tracks ‘Higher’ & ‘Feel My Love’ are both new releases.
Have you played there or attended the festival as a punter before?
I played last year on the Net Loft Stage and the Fistral Beach Sessions which was awesome, I had so much fun. I have attended the festival as a punter over the years and always dreamt of being able to play so I’m super grateful to get the opportunity again!
You’re performing on the Net Loft stage alongside some incredible bands and artists, which others are you keen to check out whilst you’re there?
Yes there are some great artists like my friend Joanna Cooke she’s gotta beautiful voice she’s on after me so look forward to listening to her and Milo Gore are a real cool band well worth a watch also!
The festival attracts over 50,000 people every year, what do you think it is that keeps people coming back time and time again?
I think it’s a combination of everything like the area, Newquay is such a fun place and surfing with live music what more could you want!
There are some pretty incredible acts performing this year, tell me some of the bigger names that you’re keen to check out….
Yes there’s some solid acts this year I’d like to see Lewis Capaldi he’s wicked and so funny. Also Jorja Smith she’s incredible, Sam Fender too he’s got some great tunes!
A lot of the performers on the Net Loft stage this year are from Devon and Cornwall, how would you describe the music scene where you come from?
I think the music scene in Cornwall and Devon is really where it’s at, I’d say it’s thriving with raw talent and I do think there’s so many amazing creative people here, live music is really appreciated!
Whilst in Cornwall, I hope you’ll be partaking in a cream tea, a walk on the beach and maybe a surfing lesson
Well I live in Cornwall so this a regular occurrence for me to being lavishing in cream tea haha! I do surf regularly but I probably could do with some lessons haha maybe off of my friend Luke Dillon he’s surfing in the competition.
Lastly, please tell us where people can keep up to date with you on social media….
You can keep up to date with my gigs on Facebook or instagram - You can also check out my music on Spotify
We’d like to thank Joe for sparing the time to chat to us, make sure you’re at the Net Loft stage at Boardmasters on Wednesday 7th August from 8pm to watch him perform.
