We take a listen to the debut album from MAISIE PETERS - See how we got on....
I was given the opportunity to take a listen to the debut offering You Signed Up For This by British songstress MAISIE PETERS recently and you know what? I was glad I did.
Having seen Maisie perform at this year’s Boardmasters Festival, I was keen to learn more about this 21 year old artist who has already amassed a huge following on social media.
The 14 track debut album is filled to the brim with songs that cover a multitude of issues including heartache, unrequited love, fantasy revenge, sad rage and sisterly love, each being easily relatable to anyone of a certain age and it is this demographic that Maisie goes after with a loaded weapon. Her sound reminds me of Carley Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift with an added splash of British humour thrown into the mix.
What impressed me was her knack for being able to capture the moment in her music, she has written songs which tell a story every time and this can only increase her fanbase as the youngsters love this kind of stuff.
Impressively, You Signed Up For This is actually Maisie’s second full length release in the space of three months, as she recently became one of the youngest musicians in history to write and curate a soundtrack for the second season of Apple TV+ Original Series, ‘Trying’, at only 20 years old. Written in just two months last winter, the stunning body of work includes duets with her friends and favourites, including Griff, James Bay and Bear’s Den.
With a fervent following, over half a billion global streams to date, sold out headline shows in both the UK and US, famous fans (Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, Sam Smith), and a newly inked deal with one of the most successful musicians of all time (Ed Sheeran), Maisie is seeing her dreams come to life and inviting us along on the journey.
All in all, a strong debut, chock full of ‘coming of age’ themed tracks from a VERY exciting young artist, it will hit all the right notes with her fanbase which will certainly provide her with a good solid platform to further her career.
