Saturday 22nd October saw the highly anticipated return of Teignmouth based Tiny Folds, back to their roots at the recently refurbished Pavilions in the heart of Teignmouth for their final gig of the year and the release of their brand new EP – The Wait. The hall was filled with 250 friends and fans which gave the normally quiet part of town quite an atmosphere! The doors opened at 7PM and it wasn’t long until the room was near capacity with people of all ages coming to support their hometown heroes.

The first support act was Bloodline consisting of Beau Boricic on lead guitar and Pete Foxon on drums - a young duo from Teignmouth taking to the stage to warm things up.

Playing an eclectic fusion of rock covers from Led Zeppelin, Cab Calloway and adding their own twist to Pharrel Williams’ – Happy. With their impressive solos and drum parts, the two young men really got the crowd going, ready for the four-year-long awaited return of the next act Chasing Hollywood.

It was to be their last ever gig, after 2 practices and having not played together in 4 years, Chasing Hollywood came together once more, for a light-hearted night full of “merriness, cockups and a good laugh”.

They played ‘Mega Shark’, which was written nearly 8 years ago, ‘Breakfast Face’ and ‘Woodland Avenue’ to name just a few of their old tracks. It was a nostalgic sounding set that sounded like a combination of You Me at Six and 30 Seconds to Mars, and I could tell the whole night meant a lot to the band members and all of their friends!

Next to hit the stage was Devon based duo MORIATY, who we covered recently in Exeter! This time, honestly they were something else, the intricacy of the way these guys play their instruments is on another level. By swapping vocal roles they are able to take turns and focus purely on playing, and they had some of the sickest heavy blues tunes I’ve seen live!

Jordan (lead/vocals) has some serious skills with a guitar slide. With tracks still fresh in their setlist from their Pure Filth EP (I advise you to check it out), not to mention the mind-blowing Metallica-esque guitar solos Jordan was shredding on his Fender whilst running nimbly through the crowd! I just about managed to keep up and get some snaps when they finally got the lighting on him. It was an awesome way to get the crowd on their toes and it really helped set up for the headlining act.

By the time the headliners were set to play, the venue was looking decidedly rammed! I was beginning to get pretty hot too, but I made sure to save energy for the last hour. Having no photo pit meant I was literally dancing alongside the very energetic front row of the crowd, but it was a great laugh and didn’t stop me getting shots from every angle!

Tiny Folds rocked out for the last hour of the evening, and what a way to end your final show of the year! Having not seen them live for a few months, it was great to be able to shoot and support one of my close friends and his band at the same time!

Their new tracks showed us what serious talent these boys have developed over the years! They’ve come such a long way even since they played the Radio 1’s Big Weekend. I was absolutely loving their blissful melodic synth sounds. A few of my favourites included their classics; Glamorous, Amplitude and Arcadia. All of which have great music videos you should check out right now!

In short, the evening showed us a great mashup of musical genres ranging from rock and pop covers, to pop-punk, blues, metal and of course synth-pop. The crowd did a great job in keeping the vibes going between sets, and the staff at the venue were exceptional. Let me get on and do my thing, no questions asked. Overall I couldn’t have asked for a better night, spot on!!
