We last saw Polly Money at an event held in Rougemont Gardens in Exeter at what can only be described as a mini music festival which featured a few local acts, Stormzy, Wretch 32 and culminated in a Basement Jaxx DJ set, rather a random lineup I’m sure you’ll agree.
Prior to this, we bumped into her when she was opening for The Boomtown Rats at the Exeter University and after checking back on the website, I see that we did actually run a printed interview feature with Polly way back in 2014, you can read this HERE
Anyway, fast forward 7 years and I am sat with her in the media garden at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL and we had a great chat about her appearance on the BBC Introducing stage later in the day, how it feels to be back playing to real people and whether she will ever support MUSE again….

I was walking to The View stage around Friday lunchtime to catch Pattern Pusher’s set when I wandered past the ‘wellbeing’ area at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL. I could hear some lovely music coming from the small stage that was setup in the area and as I looked up to see who it was, I noticed Daisy Clark on the stage singing her heart out to a very attentive audience.
On the Saturday afternoon, Daisy popped into the press tent to chat to some friends on the PR team and I asked her if she’d like to have a chat as there were some questions I had for her around a certain G7 Summit event that took place at the Carbis Bay Hotel earlier this year.

I’ll admit to you now, when JOESEF arrived in the media garden for a chat after his main stage appearance at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL, I had never heard of him, his music or his origin so chatting to him was great fun!
We chatted about the music scene in his home city of Glasgow and his forthcoming live show at The Barras (aka The Barrowlands) in the heart of Glasgow which has played host to just about EVERYONE in the music industry over the past goodness knows how many years!

Now, ALFIE TEMPLEMAN was meant to rendezvous with me in the press tent ahead of his performance on The Land of the Saints stage later on in the day at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL. I waited and waited and waited a bit more before deciding that he’d probably been held up owing to technical issues or last minute setlist changes, this stuff happens at large scale music festivals, get over it…..
SO, after their performance, my trusted press assistant and I decided to go for a wander to the backstage compound of the Land of the Saints stage to see if we could locate Mr Templeman. He had literally just finished his set and was ‘having a minute’ backstage before letting his hair down for the rest of the day. We seized our opportunity and pounced on him, he was more than happy to find a nice secluded spot overlooking the sea and it was here that I pressed record and chatted about his performance, the festival and his recently released ‘Forever Isn’t Long Enough’ mini album (available NOW from all good record shops!)

With sweat still dripping from their foreheads, SAM RICHARDSON and one of THE RENEGADES came to see me in the press tent for a chat.
We spoke about tons of stuff including how it felt to officially open BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL being the first band to grace the main stage since GEORGE EZRA headlined on the Sunday night of the 2018 festival.

I’d heard very good things about Cornish indie alt quartet Flowers of Palo but sadly, I wasn’t able to get to the stage in time to catch their set at this years BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL.
Luckily for me, I had arranged a meet up in the press tent after their performance to have a quick chat about the show, their tour with fellow Cornish band Facepaint and just how it feels to be playing in a massive tent to a killer audience at the BEST festival in the South West.

As I approached the dressing room of Billie Marten at BOARDMASTERS, I was filled with a sense of joy, she had not only recently released her debut album to critical acclaim, she has also had her track ‘Human Replacement’ play-listed on BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 and Radio X, now that’s what I call an incredible achievement!
As I entered her dressing room, she was midway through a Cornish pasty, she apologised and said that she would finish it after we had chatted but being the true gent I am, I was having none of it so I let her enjoy what was left of the Cornish treat prior to piling into my questions.

I’d heard great things about an indie rock quintet from Plymouth called THE NATIVE but never had the chance to get together with them for a chat, this all changed as I saw that they were set to play at BOARDMASTERS festival, I was there, they were there, so why not meet up and have a chat, this is exactly what we did!
After a storming performance on The Land of the Saints stage (massive big top tent), they were buzzing as we chatted about the set, their forthcoming tour and of course, how it feels to be out there in front of a real audience once again.

I first saw ELIZA SHADDAD when she supported a local Devon band called Matthew & Me in Dartington way back in 2016. I’ve been following her musical journey ever since and am pleased to say that, in my opinion, she has blossomed into an incredible songwriter. Her recent album release ‘The Woman You Want’ is regularly spinning on my turntable and to get the chance to catch up with Eliza 5 years after I last spoke to her was high on the agenda.
I saw that she was playing at BOARDMASTERS festival and thought it would be a great chance to hook up, chat about her new album and generally find out what she’s been up to during the last 5 years.

When you’re preparing for interviews at BOARDMASTERS festival, I always used to start towards the bottom of the bill and work my way up, sorry to say that it’s just easier to attract bands and artists this way and makes my weekend a lot more fun chatting to people that I’ve never met before. This year, I thought I’d try a different approach and request some face time with bands at the top of the bill instead…..it paid off as a few bands did come back to me with days and times to chat.
One of these was WILL AND THE PEOPLE, we got comfy ahead of their set on The View stage and chatted about their forthcoming single ‘Animal’, their UK tour and how it feels to be out there once again, playing in front of a real audience once again….

Having chatted to Bailey Tomkinson at Chagstock just a few weeks ago, I thought it was rather assumptive of me to expect her to give up her time and come and do the same all over again! I told her that I really wanted to chat to her about BOARDMASTERS, a festival that she has ben attending for a long time and has always longed to perform at. We missed each other on the day of her set as she was off galavanting with her friends and having far too much of a good time to come and speak to me so we left it until the next day and agreed to meet up.

Having spoken to North Devon based singer songwriter YAZZY a few months back on the musomusofm radio show, I thought it was high time that we got together again to have a catch up.
I saw that she was performing at BOARDMASTERS this year and managed to time it perfectly, I arrived to The View stage as she was just launching into the final two numbers from her set.

I’ve just got back from London and between Boardmasters Festival coming to an end and me and the family shooting off to the nation’s capital for a bit of R&R, I just didn’t have time to edit the interview and get it uploaded to the site. Whilst in London, just wandering around, my son shouted out that there was a picture of someone on the side of a double decker bus that looked JUST LIKE someone I had interviewed at Boardmasters the weekend before, I looked up and there he was , MISTAJAM, on the side of the number 29 on the way to Camden Town!

There was a bit of a commotion in the media tent at Boardmasters Festival over the weekend, the 3 young ladies who were running the tent were squealing like school girls as JAMIE WEBSTER had come in for a chat. Not being from Liverpool and not being a massive fan of the footie, I knew very little about this plucky singer songwriter but I soon found out that he’s the guy who does the ‘Allez Allez Allez’ song.
He also released his debut LP ‘We Get By’ last year which resulted in him topping the newly created Official Folk Album chart!
He was there, I was there, 3 giggling PR managers were there, what could possibly go wrong!

I was asked if I’d like to interview RUDE KID whilst I was at Boardmasters Festival last weekend, after a bit of googling, I learned that he is a very well respected DJ and producer who has collaborated with royalty from the world of Grime including GHETTS and SKEPTA.
After a little more digging, I saw a post from David Beckham saying how much he enjoyed his new track….

A young lady from the media team asked if I’d be interested in chatting to a queer vegan punk band from the Faroe Islands called Joe & The Shitboys, with a name like that, who was I to turn it down!
Click ‘Play’ below to hear the whole interview where we chatted about the music scene on the Faroe Islands, their Autumn UK tour and how they were preparing for their show later on in the Keg & Pasty pub at Boardmasters…..

It’s always great to get the chance to chat to a Cornish band at the BEST music festival that Cornwall has to offer, when Perran from THE ULTRA VIOLETS said that they’d be up for a chat, I jumped at the chance and cleared the decks for their imminent arrival at the press tent where I spent most of my weekend!

Whilst you were all dashing about from stage to stage at BOARDMASTERS FESTIVAL this year, I was holed up in the press tent interviewing LOADS of amazing band and artists.
Amongst these amazing bands were one that really stood out from the rest and after playing 2 gigs at the festival, they were ready to tell me all about it.

From time to time, a new musical act comes along, sometimes, they sound and look just like any other band and have to fight hard to get noticed and build a strong following. May I introduce you to a London based duo called Bob Vylan who fuse the modern day values of rap/grime and the raw power of punk to create some of the most hard hitting music I have heard in a long time.
