WILLARD GRANT CONSPIRACY - EXETER PHOENIX

Sitting somewhere between country and alternative, the collective known as Willard Grant Conspiracy have been hailed as the new heroes of their genre. Based near Palmdale, California, the band’s only permanent member, the heavily bearded vocalist Robert Fisher, has a style that has been compared to both John Cale and Johnny Cash. As a band, it’s easy to draw comparisons with the likes Nick Cave and Tindersticks.

With a collective of some 30+ musicians, Willard Grant Conspiracy are a force to be reckoned with – both physically and musically.

Performing here as a trio.

It’s beautiful, stark and a remarkable achievement in poetry and song
FOLK RADIO UK

At times hushed and poetic, at others dizzyingly huge and squalling
MOJO

At times it resembles the super-eight soundscapes of the Dirty Three… a contemporary take on the dustbowl, with the humanity of Steinbeck and the visual eye of Ansel Adams
AMERICANA UK

Understatedly poetic and expertly crafted, this is a fine record
