Tell the world about yourself?
I’m 44 going on 22 (in my head) and gradually realising that it might be time to start slowing down a little bit. Married with no kids (through choice – we wouldn’t have the patience for them). I also play drums for a local 80's cover band – Ashes To Ashes
Where do you live?
On Plymouth Hoe, with a cracking sea view – I’m very fortunate in that respect.
What do you do for musicmuso.com
Mainly CD reviews. From the last couple it seems I specialise in Norwegian prog rock. I keep threatening to do a live review but due to commitments with my band and other demands on my time, I’ve only managed to do gigs that I was going to anyway. It’ll be nice to get round to going and seeing someone I wouldn’t normally choose.
How did you come to being a contributor on the site?
I work with Steve Muscutt (in a 9-5 sense) and sort of stumbled into it late in 2013. Haven’t thought of a good excuse to stop yet…..!
Three words to describe you?
Gregarious, sensitive, balding. (or a show-off, needy and a slaphead if you want to look at the otherside of the coin).
Favourite artist/band?
Couldn’t pick just one so – with apologies - massive list alert!! Rush, Big Country, Primus, Dream Theater, Thomas Dolby, Motorhead, Rage Against The Machine, Funeral For A Friend, Danny Wilson, Blink-182, Van Halen, The Proclaimers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, FM, It Bites, Rancid, Francis Dunnery, The Police, Journey, XTC, Alter Bridge, Reef, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Marillion, The Beatles, Abba, David Bowie (and many many more).
Likes?
Music, obviously! Playing with the band (check us out on www.ashestoashestheband.com), golf, cider and Crème Egg McFlurrys.
Dislikes?
1) Ignorance and intolerance towards other people’s feelings/lifestyles be it religion, gender, sexuality or pretty much anything – live and let live, people.
2) People that want to argue whether an Android phone, Windows Phone or iPhone is the phone you should have bought – nobody ever wants that argument about what fridge you’ve just bought.
3) Middle lane hoggers on the motorway. If it was only two lanes, you’d drive on the left so why not drive there when there are three lanes? I’m glad it’s now an offence!
Most treasured possession?
A close run thing between my iPod and the watch my wife gave me for my 40th Birthday.
What will be written on your tombstone? (assuming you’re gonna get buried!)
Under this sod, lies another one.
Biggest achievement to date?
Surviving Heart bypass surgery at the age of 39
Three things that are still on your bucket list?
To run the Plymouth Half Marathon again. I’d run it prior to my operation and had been told that those days were gone but my cardiologist has had a change of heart (terrible pun totally intended) – hoping to tick that one off in about 6 months time.
I’d like to play golf on The Old Course at St. Andrews and get my photo taken on the famous Swilcan Bridge – it’s the home of golf. Yes I know that makes me a dull golf bore….
Seeing AC/DC in concert. Gutted that last time they played Wembley Stadium in 2009, I had tickets and then discovered I needed my operation - so had to sell them as I was still recovering when they played. It meant that with Malcolm Young now retired due to ill health, I will have missed seeing one of the classic elements of a classic rock band.
