#MYFIRSTGIG - EMMA SCOTT REMEMBERS HER FIRST TRIP TO SEE PAUL YOUNG....
Emma Scott has worked in the music industry since the late eighties, and has been involved in radio and TV presenting, gig promotions, A & R and most recently, radio plugging.
I thought that it was only fair that we include her in the #myfirstgig section as I had a hunch it was either going to be a 'big haired' 80's heart throb or a band like BROS, my initial thoughts were confirmed.....read on to find out all about her first ever gig!
Your Name?
Emma Scott
Where do you live (town/city)?
St Neots, Cambridgeshire.
Age now?
42 (how did that happen??)
What was your FIRST ever gig that you attended?
It was a Paul Young gig back in 1981 I believe - at Wembley Arena. He was very good. I was 9 and had posters on my wall of the man himself!
Do you remember names of the support act(s) was/were?
No idea who the support was.
Who did you go with?
I went on a coach trip that we booked through the local paper. I went with my Mum and a couple of her friends and their daughters.
What do you remember most about the show?
Paul Young skidding around on his knees - as he used to do… and running about a lot.
How did you feel the moment the lights dimmed and the ‘intro’ music started?
I was jumping around, butterflies in tummy… scared, I didn’t know what to expect as I was only 9….
Was it indoors or outdoors?
Indoors
Did you buy a T-Shirt?
I already had a T Shirt with Paul Young on (I wore it) I had sweatbands too. I bought a programme I think! It may be lurking around in a box somewhere too!
Did you like the band MORE after you saw them live?
Yes, although I already worshipped Paul Young so it was quite an achievement to like him more.
If you didn’t already own them, did you go and buy more of their music AFTER seeing them live?
Yep.
Are you still a follower of the act/band?
No, but I still have fond memories of that time and met him in 1995 and interviewed him and he invited me to a party and a gig. I went - and he was just as good… although less running around and skidding on his knees.
How many times have you seen the act/band now?
Twice.
What advice would you give to a young fan looking to attend his/her first gig?
Go with your mum. It’s not that embarrassing - and she pays!
Emma has written a book which is available to buy HERE, if you're in a band, thinking of forming a band or even been in a band for years and are struggling to get by, you NEED to read it....
