No Middle Name is the new dream pop solo project from David Bailey, one half of The Title Sequence. This July, No Middle Name will be releasing his first official single, ‘Another Season’ via Mollusc Records.
Bailey’s official debut single – ‘Another Season,’ is the perfect introduction to the soft, dreamy qualities of No Middle Name, which are heavily influenced by the sounds of Wild Nothing and Youth Lagoon. Featuring the ethereal vocals of Lindsay West, the catchy synths and dreamy undertones will stay with you for long afternoons spent in the summer sun.
Rory Mansfield of Hull’s Mollusc records gave Dave Bailey the chance to create No Middle Name by offering him the keys to Glove Box studio to craft an album after a chance meeting at a garden party in the depths of Dalston. The result upon emerging from the studio after an intense seven weeks stint was not the acoustic piece the label was expecting. Instead Bailey had created a lo-fi dream pop album, employing creative and interesting uses of samples, fusing these with guitars, synthesizers and the melodic songwriting that he is well known for in The Title Sequence.
As in The Title Sequence, Bailey takes a similar charmingly quirky yet all encompassing approach by devoting himself to side projects featured around No Middle Name. Alongside his track releases, Bailey is releasing his own radio shows which explore the influences behind his new musical path, featuring tracks off the album, as well as one off tracks made exclusively for the mixes. Bailey also collaborated exclusively with Berlin based up and coming photographer, Matthias Heiderich, for No Middle Name’s album art. Resulting in a series of stunning yet simplistic shots, the collaboration ensures an unforgettable and strong link between the visual aesthetics and sounds of No Middle Name.
Bailey has brought a distinct DIY hands-on approach to his new solo project. Never one to be restricted to just music, Bailey took pleasure in exploring his creative side. As well as crafting his own radio shows, he taught himself to become an animator, no easy task. Armed with only a low-budget scanner and a pad of paper, he crafted an eccentric and lovely animated video for the forthcoming debut single ‘Another Season’ which will be unveiled alongside his debut single.
