HUGE SUMMER UK TOUR W/ MADINA LAKE
Praise for debut album ‘Go Fun Yourself’:
“Chicago rock ‘n’ rollers who – as the name suggests – bounce about to some seriously upbeat pit anthems. Think NFG meets Sum41 meets MCR” Kerrang!
“Unfeasibly catchy and assured… The Super Happy Fun Club are set to become the breakout success story of the year” Rock Sound
Back in 2011, The Super Happy Fun Club were riding on an all time high. Their debut record, Go Fun Yourself, was selling by the bucket-load, receiving high praise from UK press, they’d toured the UK and Europe with hometown friends Madina Lake, and the future looked very bright indeed. Tragedy however was not far away. The Super Happy Fun Club are a group of friends that have lived and breathed the scene for the most of their lives. Bound by lifelong friendships, and drawing the energy for their music from their collective experience, in the time since Go Fun Yourself, the band have endured the death of a close friend, the end of lead singer Stubhy’s marriage, as well as the resulting fallout from the band’s own destructive tendencies with alcohol.
So, finding themselves in a markedly different situation to the one in which they recorded their debut, struggling to find ways to deal with what they’d been through, the band questioned where to go. The answer? Hole themselves up in your home studio and make music you love with your best friends. The resulting record acted as a kind of therapy, as Stubhy comments:
“We got to really come together on this record musically and develop our sound as a band. This is a cohesive record about getting through a miserable time but finding hope after hitting rock bottom. I hope everyone that’s been through a hard time can find some strength in these songs and sing and scream along with us triumphantly! The ultimate reward will be playing these songs for our friends in the UK!”
Tracks like Move On, Enemy and Fine Distraction all signpost the gruelling journey the band have made over the last couple of years, while elsewhere the likes of Way Back are marked out as a firm reminder of why we fell in love with TSHFC in the first place. Proving once again their mastery over the emotive pop-punk heartbreaker in Good Year (a co-write with Tom Higgenson of Plain White T’s), with a bit of luck, 2013 will be nothing less.
Further Info:
Born and raised in and around Chicago, it is evident that the guys have produced a familiar sound from the same scene that brought the world Fall Out Boy, The Audition and The Academy Is…, alongside the influences of the city in which The Super Happy Fun Club grew up.
The band have collectively toured with Plain White T’s, Yellowcard, Bowling For Soup, and Jack’s Mannequin. Vocalist Stubhy comes from the popular US band Lucky Boys Confusion, guitarist Phil Kosch’s last band were signed to the label that was owned by Andrew McMahon (singer of something corporate / jack’s mannequin) and pianist Pat Gilroy featured on the last Plain White T’s record, Big Bad World.
