Ralf Dee is an alternative/folk artist from Germany.
His second album "Your Time Is Now" will be released on Jan 31 2014.
Ralf was kind enough to take some time out of his hectic schedule to answer some questions for us, here's how they turned out….
Introduce yourself and your music in one sentence…. my name is Ralf Dee, I’m an alternative singer-songwriter from Germany and former bass-player of various bands, blending different styles and trying to find a niche in the wide range of traditional and modern folk/ folk-rock music.
Last time you used public transport and where did you go? I took the bus to work about a year ago, because the car needed to get repaired.
Last time you felt proud? When I got the first copies of my new CD.
What classic song do you wish you recorded and why? Thin Lizzy's "Dancing in the Moonlight". It has accompanied me since my early youth. I’ve always been a Phil Lynott fan and I love that song. The simplicity of the bass line is brilliant.
Last movie you saw? Gran Torino
Last book you read? "It’s so easy and other lies" by Duff McKagan.
What did you dream about last night? I don’t remember.
Last time you cried? At a friend's funeral last year.
Biggest musical influence? There are many like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, Mike Ness, Tom Petty, Billy Bragg and Wilco, just to name a few.
Best gig you ever played? I think it was the first gig with the Ralf Dee Band. Although there weren't many people, I enjoyed it more than every gig as a bass player. It just felt perfect to perform my own songs with a tight band.
Best band/artist of 2013? To be honest I haven't followed the current music scene too much, so I don't know. I have my all time favourites.
Biggest act you have ever played with (supported or on the same bill as)? I played with a few names. I think the band with the biggest commercial success was the Climax Blues Band. I was playing bass in a traditional Rock'n'Roll band when we supported them on a festival.
The last album/record you bought? Bob Dylan’s Tempest
Last time you had a fight? I don’t fight
Tell me one of your guilty pleasures? Beer
Best advice you ever received and who was it from? I don’t know. I probably should have listened to some more ;-)
Largest amount spent in a single purchase? (excluding houses) A car.
Whilst Ralf was thinking about the value for money his 'uber efficient' German car has given him over the years, we wheeled in the quick fire big guns and unleashed hell upon him…..
