Acid Jazz subsidiary Miles Away Records are delighted to be reissuing Delores Fuller - One More Chance Lord / My Greatest Desire.
Released originally in 1983, One More Chance Lord is a gospel infused soul/disco banger is full of rich vocals and a killer piano riff, it effortlessly fuses multiple genres to create a track that should have received its debut during the golden age of disco instead of the early 80s amongst a sea of new wave / new romantic artists.
On the flip side you’ll find My Greatest Desire where Dolores bears her soul with just the accompaniment of the piano, it reminds me of a preacher giving his sermon to a church full of believers, receiving a ‘Hallelujah’ and a ‘Praise the Lord’ after every line delivered. Delores singing about values of life - “not searching for riches, not hungry for fame”, perhaps inadvertently explaining why this single has never had the prominence it so deserves.
For their 7th release Acid Jazz are delighted to be reissuing the single that has brought them a lot of joy in recent times. They first came to hear Delores Fuller’s beautiful single One More Chance Lord in the same way they have heard a lot of new music over the last year and a half – through a friend’s lock down recommendation. Ever since, the single has been a staple in their collection and permanently on the turntable.
“Released originally on Intro Records, a US based label predominately active throughout the 1980s. After a little diggin’ we reached out to Dwain Jones who duly licensed us the both sides and informed us that the single features a truly amazing arrange of musicians. Stanley Banks; bassist on classics albums such as George Benson’s Breezin’, Jonathan DuBose, guitarist with renowned gospel group The Clark Sisters and not to mention Pee Wee Ellis; James Browns band leader in the late 1960s who’s sax can be found peppered throughout Delores’ album God’s Love.”
