All-female alt-rock outfit The Beaches are proud to present 'Little Pieces', the lead single taken from their forthcoming EP due for release on April 28th.
Signed to the prestigious Three Six Zero Group (Calvin Harris, deadmau5, Hurts), a partner of Jay Z'sRoc Nation - the Toronto-based four-piece are a shining example of good girls gone great. Breaking onto the circuit at the start of 2013 (a year which saw them open for Kings of Leon in Montreal) they blend a contemporary edge with an acerbic new wave cool, punctuated by the odd L.A-inflected hook that allows them to flip their sound from snarly to sunny as their whims dictate.
Proud pioneers of today’s new-wave class of fem-rock, their sassy sensibility has seen them likened to sibling trio Haim, not least for the fact that two of the band’s four members are sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller. Imbued with the snarl and spit of romantic defiance, youth rebellion and peer solidarity that makes the 16 to 19-year-old females such a formidable force to be reckoned with, their sassy, saw-toothed sound now recalls that of The Strokes, The White Stripes and Metric.
‘Little Pieces’ opens with fearless guitar riffs, bold percussive beats and a whirl of hypnotic harmonies that make for a heady brand of infectious chick-rock with a distinctive personality.
While the inevitable comparisons are flattering, their raw, rebellious sound is inflected with a feisty counter-culture vibe that can’t be faked. Clearly, they pack a punk-rock punch that is all their own.
