Butch Walker’s latest offering is filled with heart wrenching passion devoted to his late father, the lead single Fathers Day is gentle, soulful and from the heart as is the whole album. Opening track Afraid of Ghosts is raw and delicate whilst follow up track I Love You is tender and sweet reminding me of the love songs that Train have so wonderfully delivered to newly weds in recent years.
How Are Things, Love harks back to the haunting waltz sounds of Jeff Buckley, as Bed on Fire is a moody acoustic masterpiece. 21 is simply divine as tinkering’s of harmonies blend between stories and guitar strings, as final song The Dark is meditational, echoing the oceanic waves for a gentle drift out of this wonderful memorial to his father; a sign of making peace with yourself despite the darkest days of your life.
Whilst this album was inspired by a bleak moment in Butch Walkers life, it has brought a new spring, it blossoms love, peace and understanding of life filled with fragile, gentle and graceful tracks that everyone can love. For those moments in life when you need opportunity to reflect and time to grieve, this album will be the light at the end of the tunnel, the new seasons of hope on the horizon.
Butch Walker, your father will be very proud. What a beautiful piece of art you have created.
