Last night I was lucky enough to see Courtney Marie Andrews, promoting her new album Loose Future at Trinity Bristol.
I first saw Courtney at The Black Deer Festival in Kent 2022. She made quite an impression on me hence I couldn’t wait to hear her perform her new album with a full band as the last time I saw her she was solo.
Originally from Phoenix Arizona, Andrews was an auxiliary member of Jimmy Eat World, appearing on their 2010 studio album Invented and acting as their keyboardist and backing vocalist on the subsequent tour.
First on stage was Robert Ellis who was the support and came on around 8pm to an enthusiastic audience who kept shouting out for the song California from. Album. He said he wasn’t going to play it but after several more shouts he changed his mind and finished his set with California which he pointed out wasn’t a good song to end on. The song can be found on Robert Ellis CD which is available to purchase HERE
Then came the main event Courtney Marie Andrews who came on stage with her band and started with Loose future the opening track of her new album which she was here to promote. The musicianship was always going to be better than the record and didn’t disappoint. Courtney told the audience that with lock down she had a lot of time to write but also pointed out that sound checks where good as well. Halfway through the set she took a solo to play a new song which she had used this time for.
After proceeding to throw flowers into the audience the show came to an end with Robert Ellis joining her on stage on Piano for a version of the Bee Gee song To Love Somebody.
What a gig and what a voice
