“So, when the hand turns to 12
I’ll start to breathe
The end of an era
But something begins”
As 2021 draws to a close, Daisy Clark releases her latest single. Set for release on 17 December 2021, ‘New Year’s Eve’ offers an intimate glimpse into Daisy’s world, as she takes a reflective look back a year just passed, and an optimistic look ahead at what’s to come.
It’s been an exciting year for Cornish singer-songwriter Daisy Clark, with career-defining performances including an intimate set in front of world leaders as they gathered at the G7 Summit in Cornwall. Speaking to Press Association about her performance at the G7, Daisy said, “The person that I properly had a conversation with was Jill Biden and President Joe Biden. They were very, very complimentary of my music. They really, really seemed to enjoy it and were just really lovely to me. Jill was saying that she wanted them all to stop talking at one point so she could hear the music properly. The president asked me my name, how old I was and he was just really complimentary. So that was amazing.”
‘New Year’s Eve’ is the third release from Daisy this year, following Hope It Hurts You, and Front Row. Written by Daisy, the new single is produced by Glen Nicholls, who’s worked with globally-renowned names including The Prodigy, Sia and Moloko. Originally written in 2020 at the end of a tumultuous year, the song looks back on the past 12 months, mistakes made and lessons learned, with an air of excitement and hope for fresh starts, new beginnings and good times ahead.
Talking about the inspiration behind the track, Daisy said, “I wrote this song during the last week of 2020. It had been a particularly difficult year, and I love fresh starts and clean slates. I couldn't wait for 2020 to be over so wrote this song about my impatience for the new year and a fresh start. It’s also about running away from everything I was leaving behind in 2020 and how excited I was to reinvent myself and make 2021 the best year possible. And looking back now, 2021 has been an amazing year!”
With New Year’s Eve fast approaching, Daisy shares how she’ll be ringing in 2022, “Last year, with restrictions in place I had a pretty mellow New Year's Eve. So this year I'm going to be celebrating with some amazing friends that I’ve made over the past year. They are one of the best things to come out of my 2021! Where I live, there’s always fancy dress on NYE, so we're going as the Spice Girls, and I'm sure some prosecco will be involved.”
