We caught up with Wildwood Kin fresh from performing on channel 4’s ‘Sunday Brunch’ last weekend and on the second day of their pre-tour series of record signings and performances to promote their self-titled eponymous album, which follows on the heels of their spectacular debut “Turning Tides” and a most delicious EP “Voices of Equlibrium”, in which they cover and improve on the seminal music of their youth.
We’ve been fortunate enough to hear Wildwood Kin at the acoustically spectacular Royal Albert Hall and likewise the unique venue of The Chapel at the final Port Eliot Festival. Shoehorned into the magnificent Phoenix Sounds in Newton Abbot, with the audience within touching distance, they demonstrated that they truly do have the voices of Angels.
We were treated to 5 incredible songs; the highlight for me was ‘Never Alone’, where the band recreated the majestic beauty of a storm. ‘Beauty in Your Brokenness’ speaks of an ancient Japanese custom of repairing broken items with golden glue to create something more unique and beautiful than the original.
The band created a sound with both their voices and instruments that is as beautiful as the sentiment of their lyrics.
After the set, the ladies spent time meeting, chatting, posing for photographs and signing copies of their new album for the fans that squeezed into The Phoenix to witness the spectacle which was their live set. After nearly an hour, when the thirsty fans had been quenched, I chatted to Meg about recent events, we laughed at the feature in yesterdays copy of The Times newspaper which made the band out as one that was paid in organic fruit and vegetables (they recently played a show at Riverford Organic Farm in Devon).
Walking back to the car, with my family, the consensus was that Wildwood Kin are enchanting, both as musicians and human beings and this takes them to a higher level than simply being amazing, talented and incredible artists.
You can download their music from all the usual places, but as the band reminded us during their set, one of the most beautiful things they experience is the sight of people physically buying their records. Don’t delay, the new self titled album by Wildwood Kin is out now and it’s waiting for you to take a listen!
Catch the band live at The Lemongrove in Exeter on November 21st, after today’s in-store performance, tickets aren’t going to be hanging around for long so I suggest you book early to avoid disappointment!
Keep up to date with Wildwood Kin;
