Since its release in 1994, East 17’s "Stay Another Day" has become a perennial Christmas favourite. The UK Christmas number one in 1994, it beat that other platinum plated Christmas classic Mariah Carey’s "All I Want for Christmas Is You" to reach #1 and went on to top the charts in 8 countries, reaching the top ten in over 20 countries worldwide.
"Stay Another Day" repositioned Walthamstow’s bad boys of pop as household favourites, garnering the band’s lead songwriter Tony Mortimer an Ivor Novello award for songwriting and a Brit nomination for ‘Best Song’. It’s a song that transcends the rough and tumble production line of 90s pop and has entered the canon of truly great songwriting. "Stay Another Day" has also been covered by everyone from Kylie Minogue to Girls Aloud, Rae Morris, Chvrches and UB40.
The iconic black and white video - all snowflakes and fur trimmed white parkas - is embedded in the collective consciousness and has been replicated endlessly on social media. Revealed today is a glorious HD restoration just in time for Christmas 2022, along with the studio session version shot in Sarm Studios.
Its popularity continues to grow, with streaming numbers building each year and its popularity with users on TikTok spiking dramatically over the festive season, with 4K creations using the official sound and 4.9m views on TikTok. This year East 17 launch a special filter for optimal Christmas vibes and UGC interaction: Try the filter which allows you to ‘wear’ the East 17 fur lined parka in a black and white snowstorm!
