Record Store Day 2025: A Celebration of Vinyl and Community
April 12th, 2025, marks the 18th annual Record Store Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the unique culture of independent record shops and the enduring art of vinyl. This year, musomuso will be covering the event at the Phoenix Sounds Record Shop in Newton Abbot, bringing you all the excitement and exclusive releases.
The Return of Oasis
One of the most anticipated releases this year is Oasis' "Time Flies… (1994-2009)," reissued on vinyl for the first time since 2010. This special edition features remastered audio and new packaging, with a numbered box set that includes four coloured LPs. Former Record Store Day ambassador Noel Gallagher has long championed the importance of record shops, saying, “Record shops were really important when I was growing up. It’s something that’s in my DNA.”
Taylor Swift's Exclusive Release
Swifties have something to rejoice about with Taylor Swift's exclusive 7" white vinyl of “Fortnight” from her Grammy-nominated album, "The Tortured Poets Department." This is the first time the track will be available on vinyl, including the Fortnight (BLOND:ISH Remix).
Fred Again.. and Brit Nominees
Fred again.. will release his 'Actual Life' piano live sessions on vinyl for the first time. Fred said, “This vinyl series is always gonna be limited pressings of live moments that felt particularly special and these are some of my favourite things we’ve done1.” Other Brit nominees joining the lineup include Beabadoobee, Charli XCX, Rachel Chinouriri, Confidence Man, The Cure, English Teacher, Sam Fender, and Michael Kiwanuka.
Indie Favorites and Punk Rock Legends
Indie favorites The Jesus and Mary Chain are set to release a remastered 13-track collection of A-sides and non-album B-sides. Meanwhile, The Verve’s "Voyager 1," a rare ‘pseudo-bootleg’ designed to look like an unofficial release, is also getting a reissue. Punk rock legends Rise Against are back with "Nod," their first new music in three years, available on 7” vinyl for the very first time.
The Continued Vinyl Revival
This year’s Record Store Day arrives as vinyl sales have rocketed to their highest level in 20 years. According to the latest report from the Digital Entertainment and Retail Association, the market for vinyl records grew by 10.5%, with 6.7 million discs sold last year, generating £196m1. These exciting numbers highlight the ongoing love for physical music and the vital role independent record stores play in bringing artists, labels, and collectors together.
