Finding Truth in the Noise: Everyone Says Hi Return with the Warm, Witty and Wonderful 'Funny Cos It’s True'

October 9, 2026

There’s a certain magic that happens when experienced musicians stop chasing trends and simply focus on writing great songs. On their second album, Funny Cos It’s True, Everyone Says Hi have done exactly that. The result is a record rich in melody, emotion and lived experience, one that feels both timeless and refreshingly human.

Led by former Kaiser Chiefs drummer and songwriter Nick Hodgson, the five-piece have quietly evolved into one of the UK’s most compelling indie-pop outfits. While their acclaimed 2025 self-titled debut introduced the band's sonic identity, Funny Cos It’s True feels like the moment everything clicks into place. Recorded in Hodgson’s North London home studio and produced by the frontman himself, the album expands on the band's melodic foundations while embracing a broader emotional and musical palette.

Across eleven tracks, Everyone Says Hi blend classic British songwriting craftsmanship with shimmering modern production, creating songs that are equally suited to headphones, festival fields and late-night reflection. The record's themes are deeply personal, touching on grief, parenthood, friendship and societal division, yet they never feel heavy-handed. Instead, they are wrapped in warm melodies and choruses that linger long after the final note.

The album’s latest single, “Real Friends”, perfectly captures that balance. Built around an infectious groove and effortless hook, the track explores the complexities of friendship and loyalty rather than delivering simplistic platitudes. Inspired in part by the tensions, misunderstandings and enduring bonds that can form within bands and creative partnerships, the song carries an honesty that resonates far beyond its immediate subject matter. It is the kind of track that feels instantly familiar while revealing new layers with every listen.

What makes Funny Cos It’s True particularly impressive is its collaborative spirit. Whereas the debut album was largely shaped by Hodgson’s vision, this record emerged from a band finding its collective voice. The chemistry developed through touring and live performances has clearly seeped into the songwriting, resulting in a richer, more expansive sound that highlights the strengths of every member. Alongside Hodgson, the line-up features Pete Denton (The Kooks), Ben Gordon (The Dead 60s), Glenn Moule (Howling Bells) and guitarist Oli Swan, a collection of seasoned musicians whose experience shines throughout the record.

That experience is also translating into a growing reputation as a live act. Support slots with the likes of Neil Young, The Cribs and Feeder, coupled with increasingly confident headline performances, have helped Everyone Says Hi establish a dedicated and steadily growing audience. With a string of UK in-store dates underway and further live plans on the horizon, the band appear poised to take another significant step forward.

In an era often dominated by fleeting moments and algorithm-driven trends, Funny Cos It’s True succeeds because it embraces something more enduring: great songs, genuine emotion and musicians playing to their strengths. It’s an album that wears its heart proudly on its sleeve while never losing sight of the joy of a well-crafted pop song. Everyone Says Hi may still be building their story, but with records like this, they are giving listeners plenty of reasons to keep listening.
