Sarnath is the debut full length album by Finland based 3 piece stoner metal try Centipede. It resumes from where the band left off with their previous EP ‘Brazen Bull’ which received very favourable reviews. The new album consists of 8 heavy stoner metal tracks thatbring together the different sides of Centipede: slow stomping and fast pummeling. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, part of the record forms a story of a doomed city that also gives its name to the album.
In addition to a digital release there will be a small batch of CDs and with the record release a two-song 12" vinyl single that comes with a download code for the whole album. The album is released March 4th 2016 by Inverse Records.
Centipede is a heavy hitting stoner metal trio from Helsinki, Finland. Formed in 2011, they have released two well received EP’s and a split 7”. Finally, 2016 is THE year for Centipede’s debut full length album, titled Sarnath.
Centipede bring together their love for stoner, sludge, thrash and Iommian riffage to create their blend of metal that at times is sluggishly slow and at times frantically fast. They draw inspiration from bands like High on Fire, Mastodon, Weedeater and the Melvins but don’t piss on the graves of Sabbath or Metallica either.
The reviews of Centipede's previous EP ‘Brazen Bull’ mentioned the band "claiming the title of Finland's most crushing vibes" (Inferno Magazine) and creating a "heavy and oppressive atmosphere" (Miasma magazine). One German review said that the vocals sound like taking a shit after three days, but it remains unclear whether this is a good or a bad thing! Generally the reviews have been positive, but the music of Centipede isn't for everyone, and that's totally fine, each to their own….
In their purest form, Centipede have been seen in shows around Finland and on a mini tour in the Baltics. With their debut full length due for release in March 2016, there are more gigs on the horizon, new material is being written constantly as well, so expect a real treat if you get the chance to catch them live.
