Finland’s national festival Flow are thrilled to announce a brand new venue for 2014 in the form of the MixRadio Music Hall, which will play host to the likes of Brooklyn’s Big Ups and Berlin’sBallet School, as well as several exciting Finnish acts.
Promising hot talent from the arenas of punk, garage, rap and techno, the venue is located in the old Tiivistämö building of the Suvilahti festival area and will be the setting for a number of underground gigs during the Flow Festival weekend.
Friday 8th August will see MixRadio Music Hall present a double act of legendary Finnish DJs Sasse and Jori Hulkkonen. Also performing will be electro duo Phantom, currently enjoying a surge in popularity, along with Ballet School, who will bring their R&B-inflected, eighties-pop inspired brand of shoegaze to the stage. Local acts will include the DJ and rapper Aksim and rock super group Riitaoja, comprising members of Giant Robot, Black Audio and Flaming Sideburns.
Saturday will play host to DJ and producer Samuli Kemppi, rap group Aivovuoto, punk and fuzzy guitars from Teksti-TV 666, along with rap twosome Paperi T & Khid. Also featuring will be new wave punk band Katujen Äänet, post-rock group Mr. Peter Hayden, as well as Shivan Dragn – the new project of Artturi Taira, the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist best known from the successful Finnish band Rubik.
Sunday brings Jaakko Eino Kalevi, an electro artist with a cult reputation, Big Ups, known for their melodic noise-rock, post-punkers Beastmilk, psych-rockers Death Hawks, nineties indie and punk purveyors Gim Kordon, and Rauhatäti, who meld dubstep and hip-hop elements.
Partners of Flow Festival 2014 include main partner Microsoft, along with Brand Factory, Clear Channel, Heineken, Helsingin Sanomat, Raha-automaattiyhdistys, RGB, Red Bull Music Academy, Yellow Tail and Yle. Creative partners in 2014 are Anima Boutique, Byroo, Cocoaand TSTO.
Flow has become synonymous with bringing music from old school legends to topical newcomers, spanning Scandinavia’s finest to a whole host of international talent. This year’s confirmed artists already include OutKast, The National, Paul Kalkbrenner, Pusha T, Blood Orange, Real Estate and Jon Hopkins, to name a few, with more artists yet to be announced.
Beyond the music, the event offers a warm embrace of the arts, offering displays from Scandinavia and abroad as well as showcasing art house film, cinema, lectures and an exceptional array of world spanning cuisine, surely making Flow this summer’s hottest festival ticket.
