You can stop turning blue in the face now. Breathe deep. After months of waiting we are delighted to bring to you an early Christmas present of the most thoughtful kind. The Gigantic Indie All Dayer officially announces to you the addition of our biggest surprise to the bill yet. Introducing our very special guests: INSPIRAL CARPETS!
No line up celebrating the cream of the Indie rock'n'roll crop held at the Manchester Academy could surely ever be complete without a fitting Madchester nod. Armed with a cannon stuffed with household hits, The Inspiral Carpets will be dutifully be taking up that mantle as they support headliners ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN with a special GREATEST HITS set at the 23rd May 2015 Bank Holiday bash.
Following on from their triumphant comeback this year with their high flying "Spitfire" single and a warmly received self-titled album to boot, the heroic Mancunian band will be continuing the celebrations into the new year at Gigantic as they perform on the Academy stage. The band will be playing with their full and original 1983 line up, which has seen the return of their iconic front-man, Stephen Holt.
As one of best-loved indie bands of all time, the quintet from Oldham have led a trail blazing career spanning three decades. Formed in 1983 by Graham Lambert and Stephen Holt the band went on to become a global export, charting no less than 11 top 40 hits over the years. With big sing-a-longs aplenty up their sleeve, hits like "Caravan", "This Is How It Feels", "Dragging Me Down", "Move", "Saturn 5" and more, the Madchester lads will be bringing a whole trove of their uniquely acid washed, organ squalling masterpieces to provide the cherry on top of what is already a colossal indie cake.
Our very special guests INSPIRAL CARPETS will play alongside other premier indie acts on the bill including headliners Echo & The Bunnymen, Pop Will Eat Itself, Gang Of Four, The Primitives, Hurricane #1, EAT, Diesel Park West (performing their classic album Shakespeare Alabama), Milltown Brothers, Echobelly (acoustic), The Woodentops (acoustic), Mark Morris (of The Bluetones), BOB, and many more acts and DJs still to be announced - stay tuned!

Biography
Old School friends Graham Lambert (Guitar), Stephen Holt (vocals) and Craig Gill (drums) originally formed Inspiral Carpets in Oldham back in 1983. However, it wasn't until 1987 that Dave Swift (Bass) and organist Clint Boon joined the ranks that the band's career really took off as they released a free flexi-disc primed with the tuneful "Garage Full of Flowers" with the Manchester's Debris magazine and their first official release, the highly collectable Cow cassette.
Establishing their platform in the city, the five-piece went on to become stalwarts of the late-eighties Madchester scene alongside the likes of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. 1988s Planecrash EP saw the band win over fans including the legendary Radio 1 DJ John Peel, who subsequently invited them into the studio for one of his infamous Peel Sessions. The band went on to release a series of their early singles via their own Cow Records label including "Move".
In 1989, Swift and Holt departed the Inspirals to form a new project called The Rainkings. At the turn of the decade, the band finally signed to a major label, Mute Records, where they enjoyed their biggest hits including their pop smash "This is How it Feels" and the career defining "Caravan", songs that received wide recognition for the band on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond in places as far afield as Portugal, Germany, and Argentina. Their début album Life, reached No. 2 in the album chart in 1990 and sophomore effort The Beast Inside also placed within the top 5 a year later.
Subsequent albums Revenge of the Goldfish and Devil Hopping both retained the band's high profile throughout the early 1990s with each bearing a number of hit singles. The band issued a final singles collection in 1995, their last release on the Mute label, before announcing their split that same year.
The band reformed in 2003 to release "Come Back Tomorrow" and have toured regularly in the years since. The line up witnessed the return of original singer Stephen Holt in 2011 and the band set about recording their first new material in decades together.
Signing to Cherry Red Records in 2014, the band released the eponymously titled long-player Inspiral Carpets to a jubilant critical reception, with the record featuring singles including "You're So Good For Me" and "Spitfire" alongside 10 brand new compositions.
Inspiral Carpets are currently touring the album throughout the UK. In the new year the band will deliver a career-spanning greatest hits set at Manchester Academy's Gigantic Indie All Dayer festival on Saturday 23rd May 2015.
