"The result is a song that can swell your heart like a lullaby, yet also creates a dark melancholy that is utterly compelling." - Podcart.
Olive Grove Records present the debut EP from Henry and Fleetwood, the musical collaboration of Martin John Henry (De Rosa) and Gillian Fleetwood (State Broadcasters).
The pair met after Martin was invited on a European tour opening for Danish songwriter Agnes Obel. Fellow Scot Gillian was playing harp for Obel, and it was their time on the road and a shared love for the music of Hamish Imlach, Michael Marra and The Blue Nile which brought them together. During this tour they performed live together for the first time, playing a version of Elliott Smith's Between the Bars with Obel at the spectacular Cirque Royal in Brussels.
Upon their return to Scotland the duo went into Gargleblast Studios to record their debut EP On The Forest Floor a collection of songs that create a distinctly Scottish musical landscape - one where the awkward symbiosis of the rural and the urban is explored. Harp, synthesiser and guitar combine to provide a filmic setting for Martin and Gillian's diverse vocal harmonies, their lyrics exploring ideas of birth, wildness, partnership and solitude. This EP is the point of departure for a collaboration which will see these themes developed for a debut LP in 2015.
On The Forest Floor will be released on limited edition CD and digital download via acclaimed Glasgow based label, Olive Grove Records in April 2015.

Biography:
Gillian Fleetwood cut her teeth playing Scottish traditional music in her hometown of Inverness. Composition is also a skill she has been developing through participation in the Distil programme, which led to Gillian being commissioned as a featured composer by Mr McFall’s chamber at Celtic Connections 2015.
Martin John Henry is a songwriter from Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He has written and released four studio albums, three as the frontman of De Rosa, and one as a solo performer for the development of which he was awarded a grant from Creative Scotland.
