Led by Scottish composer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Russell, Human Pyramids are an eclectic outfit whose sound melds the worlds of jubilant chamber music and post-punk with exquisite results.
One such result is ‘Relapse’, the lead single from their upcoming, self-produced debut album ‘Planet Shhh!’, released on April 28th on Three Mile Town Records.
Opening with celestial female harmonies that weave their rhythmic way through buoyant backing instrumentals driven by bassy guitars and resolute drums, ‘Relapse’ is a true treat for the senses.
Boasting the voices of a 25-strong choir and captivating strings, this mesmerising track is a shining example of Paul’s compositional talents.
Not content with its original majesty, the single is given a decidedly digital makeover by Project Serendipity, who transforms it into dancefloor fodder with rippling synths and energetic techno beats that could soundtrack a retro video game.
Mastered by the talented Mandy Parnell (Björk, Goldfrapp, Four Tet), championed by the likes of BBC Introducing, and with a prestigious set of previous performances under their belts, including the breathtaking Union Chapel, Human Pyramids are a true cut above the rest in the experimental soundscape stakes.
