New York indie-rock group, We Are Scientists, with ‘Megaplex’ - their sixth studio album smoothly skates the line between real life political satire and an alternate dystopian reality.

Opening with lead single, ‘One In, One Out’, an uplifting synth-pop track about the quickly falling in and out of love. Accompanied by a visually impressive music video, the single sets the tone for what’s to follow

Following is an unexpectedly gloomy track, ‘Notes in A Bottle’ which then seamless blends into the lively, upbeat ‘Heart is a Weapon’ which stands out as a highlight within the album.

Coming in at number four, is their latest single, ‘Your Light Has Changed’. With an innovative music video that cleverly focuses on the concept of mind control- goes hand-in-hand with lyrics which by speak of an obsessive desire for someone who is unreceptive to change.

The group – Brooklyn Natives, showcase their soft spot for their home, with the track ‘No Wait at Five Leaves’ which is then followed up with synth-heavy dance track ‘Not Another World’

With their mutual love for stand-up comedy, the group retain their wit within their music, displayed in tracks such as ‘You Failed’, a slightly melancholic electronic track, with witty lyrics that refer to a “test of a lifetime”

With a heavier alt-rock sound, coming at number eight, is ‘Now or Never’, another highlight which stands apart from the rest of the album. The album closes with upbeat alt-rock track ‘Properties of Perception’.

A band that’s seen their lineup change quite a bit over the past two years, We Are Scientists, have still managed to keep their sound- and with that their humour – consistent with ‘Megaplex’, which is something fans – both old and new – are sure to appreciate.

‘Megaplex’ is set for release on 20th April, 2018, via 100 % Records.
