We recently posted a news feature about n0trixx releasing a new single and her debut album in march 2026, following on from that, we wanted to learn more about this wonderful artist, so we sent her a load of questions to answer and she replied in record time, read on to learn about her musical influences, her criminal record, the Russian music scene and who she would invite to a dinner party….
Please set the scene for the musomuso readers by introducing yourself and telling us something about you that not many people know….
Hi, I’m n0trixx, I’m a music artist based in Lancashire who produces her own music as a fusion of metal, electronic, rap. Not many people know that I’ve been arrested twice (more on that below) even though I’ve never been drunk in my whole life. I’m a walking menace!
From your press release, I understand that you are Russian born but are based in Lancashire, please tell me how you came to settle there?
Continuing from the previous point, one of my arrests was for a peaceful protest against the war in Russia. I was holding a piece of paper saying “Peace Friendship 8th of March” standing all on my own on Red Square and that got me in trouble. I was told that my past arrest (urbexing) and my consistent anti-war activity (three anti-war songs) would get me into even more trouble and so I fled to protect my family (I’m a single mum). I ended up in the UK after successfully applying for a Global Talent for my music and I feel blessed I can continue touring and creating my music here.
Please share some of the bands or artists that have helped to influence your sound and approach to creating music?
Nu-metal legends like Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down shaped my vision of what my music should sound like: unapologetically mental with wicked evil-sounding scales and chords and vocals that mix rap and extreme vocals. Trap producer Apashe opened my eyes to how beautiful electronic music can be, and with the tricks I learned from them I create a blend of metal and electronic that sounds like nothing else.
Was there one act that really made you decide to take up music seriously?
Linkin Park. I was grieving the death of my father as a teenager and was listening to ‘From the inside’ on repeat. It was then when I realized I wanted to create music that would help other people to go through their tough times.
Do you feel that you stand a better chance of ‘making it’ in the music world being based in the UK instead of Russia?
I genuinely think both ways could be possible for me if it weren’t for the war. We know successful examples of Russian artists blowing up globally (t.A.T.u., Ic3peak, Slaughter to Prevail). Unfortunately, these days it wouldn’t be possible because of the war, but also for ethical reasons. I wouldn’t want to represent an aggressor, I stand against everything that the current political regime does internally and externally. So yes, I really feel lucky and grateful I’m allowed to continue my musical career here.
Tell me a bit more about the Russian music scene…
I genuinely believe Russians are extremely good at creating all things dark. It’s often cold, dark and depressing in Russia, no surprises here. There are a few artists from my country who influenced me a lot, the above mentioned t.A.T.u. and Ic3peak for example. They both give a really unsettling, soul-tearing, depressing vibe. Unfortunately, these days some of the artists support the war and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth (the usual challenge of separating the art and the artist). As such, I respect Ic3peak a lot for continuously standing up against the regime, but find it hard to listen to t.A.T.u. these days because of their political views.
I just watched your video for ‘Revenge On God’ - WOW, it was hard hitting, brutal and really brings to life the topic of mental illness in a light that I have never considered before, how did the idea for the video come about?
In the video, we were trying to bring to life the ideas I’ve put into the song: the character, who completely loses touch with reality and hears voices in his head telling him to do horrific things to his beloved wife. We wanted to get into his head, see what happens inside and what could motivate him to do such things. I played the role of a demon talking into his ear and forcing him to do things against his will.
You mention that the track and video were Inspired by a real-life tragedy, can you share a bit more around this?
The song is based on a true story of a loving husband who brutally murdered his wife in a state of a mental breakdown. He suffered from dementia and in this very episode he believed that he was taking his ‘revenge on God’. I found this absolutely mind-blowing: this is how bad our brains can trick us if we don’t take care of mental health?! In my song I wanted to represent this idea in the most honest and straightforward way. The character goes from violence to confusion, to remorse and then back to violence again.
You worked with director Darren Toms on the video, did he bring ideas that you hadn’t considered prior to shooting it?
Darren is extremely good at creating resonance with everything he gets involved in. It was his idea to strip the characters to capture the raw, unapologetic nature of the madness going on inside the main character’s head using certain movements to the actors to make it more and aggressive. Of course, it’s also worth mentioning the work of Shaun Hodson (Loki Films) who, being as talented as a horror filmmaker as he is, brought the most unsettling vibe to the table with his next-level edits and brilliant photography.
If you were to host a dinner party and could invite 3 guests to join you, who would they be? (They can be alive or dead)
Siddhartha Gautama (I’m Buddhist and of course I’d love to learn directly from the spiritual leader), Michael Jackson (even though pop is not my genre, there is a lot to learn from history’s best performer and songwriter), David Lynch (I put a lot of focus into my visuals and often film, direct, and edit them myself. I would definitely benefit from some tips from the legend of psychological horror). Apparently, I like to learn while having my meal :)
Your debut album ‘A Catalogue of Madness and Melancholia’ will be out on March 13th, reflects on several different mental health issues that have had a profound impact on you, did you feel a ‘release’ writing and recording the tracks?
Some tracks, especially the ones that capture my own mental suffering, have been very therapeutic. The last few years haven’t been easy for me and a lot of this pain has been reflected in my creations. To the point that when I finished the album, I felt it was so overloaded with pain that I needed to produce something to balance it out. The album finishes with a meditation song with mantras for those who struggle with self-doubt. My therapist said I should listen to that one on repeat!
Are the mental health issues mentioned above something that you have dealt with first hand or did you create the music based on a 3rd person perspective?
Approximately half of the tracks are first person. One of the most sincere and profound ones is ‘narc (i’m so happy that you’re dead)’ which dwells on my relationship with a narcissistic parent, which shaped who I am. First time in my life I managed to spit out everything I feel about the years of abuse. Then there are also tracks about BPD, DID, ADHD, depression and suicidal tendencies which all reflect my own experience. The rest are other peoples life stories that left an impression on me and made me want to speak for them (for example, Catalepsia is about is a real-life schizophrenic pianist who wanted ‘to play the piano for the people’ and I wanted to honour him in my song).
You will be hitting the road on March 13th (album release day) and touring the country, tell me about your live setup, will it include a full band or backing tracks?
I perform with a guitarist and my own producer set up (Ableton Live + launchpad) which I will also be using for performing some of the electronic tracks on the spot.
Which of the places or venues on the tour are you MOST excited about?
I’ve never been to Scotland yet and Edinburgh has been on my bucket list for ages! Also, the Gloucester Alt All Dayer festival where a few of my favourite fellow artists will be sharing the stage with me is something I’m looking forward to a lot!
Name 3 items that you CANNOT live without whilst on the road?
Music! It’s the only thing that makes me happy, I consume a lot of new music while on the road. Nice breakfasts with coffee (breakfast is the only meal I actually care about). Kombucha (I’m straight edge, but this drink is extremely good for gut health and hence for mental health as well!).
I’m going to come and see you in Exeter on the opening night of the tour, what can I expect from your live show?
Madness!!! One thing I’ve been told that stands out about my performance is how energetic and psychologically intense it is - I always make sure to put all my energy and effort into making people feel things while enjoying the music with me. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Are you planning on performing at any festivals in 2026? If so, please share any that are confirmed.
Nothing confirmed apart from Alt All Dayer in Gloucester - but a few are in the works as we speak, hopefully you will hear more on that soon!
If you could host your own festival, which 3 headline acts would you have (they can be current or past acts)
Korn, System of a Down and Apashe! If these three were one after the other I would probably end up dying from exhaustion on the dancefloor but it would be worth it!
Christmas is literally 3 weeks away, what is on your Christmas list this year? Assuming you’ve been a good girl that is!
Haha. I’m a sad girl: honestly, I’m not a fan of the seasonal celebrations. All I want for Christmas is… that my song I HATE CHRISTMAS becomes the anthem for all the souls out there who feel the same!
Where is the best place to keep up to date with you on social media?
I am @n0trixx everywhere with Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Tiktok being the most updated ones!
We’d like to wish n0trixx all the best. for the release of her debut album and UK TOUR, and for a high chart position. for her festive offering which is sure to bother the likes of Mariah, Wham! and Slade!
