After gaining much experience in the industry Ione has now decided to pour her energy into her own music. Following on from a number of single releases, Ione now presents her new EP ‘The Tide Is Changing’, consisting of three very candid tracks. At once personal and relatable, Ione is a master of story-telling. Join us as we delve a little deeper into each of the songs features on the EP…
The Tide is Changing
Ione started working on this song a long time ago with David Blazer who also produced "Tell Me". In this song she speaks about being in a relationship which was quite suffocating and where the love has gone. The story's protagonist shares an enlightened moment, in which she chooses to follow her head for once and not her heart. Not only does this apply to the relationship being described, but also to other areas of life. It can even be a metaphor for the act of songwriting itself, which Ione has referred to in the past as being an empowering act for her, and one through which she always learns more about herself.
Loved By You
In this dreamy R&B number Ione speaks about our basic human need to love and be loved. Although she is an advocate of self-love she also believes that in this day and age of independence, isolation and self-sufficiency it's important to never forget that we do need each other. Vulnerability doesn't have to be a weakness. Ione is unafraid of exploring those fears we all have; of abandonment for instance. The powerful lyrics express this all too well: "I don't wanna be left alone baby, all because you can't swim out into depths unknown." Her love for pop and '90s R&B shine through on this record with the catchy songwriting and throwback R&B vibe.
Run Away
Ione started writing this song at a residency for women in the music industry. She heard the instrumental and fell in love. She wrote the lyrics & the music was written by Gina Tratt of Pocket Sun, whilst Gavin Holligan produced it. This song has an 80's vibe to it and explores the oxymoron of wanting what you can't have. We become more attractive to someone as soon as we don't need them. Love we were craving before is available once you let go. The song is tongue-in-cheek with the lyrics celebrating this feeling of empowerment once more: "I bet you wanna be my baby, I bet you wanna Run away with me”.
