UK Hip-hop prodigy Jody Bigfoot has a huge project underway and is teasing the release of the full LP and feature-length film ‘Duszt’ up until it drops in full this May Day. For now, expect a string of gripping trailers from the film as well as single releases.
Trailer 1 showcased the darker side of ‘Duszt’, whereas Trailer 2 shows us its more poetic side. It is precisely this combination that makes both the music and visual so captivating. Jody Bigfoot explores the dualities of human existence in a very painterly way. The project would also not be what it is without the remarkable talent of German producer Tandaro, who Bigfoot met in a random reggae Facebook group and later met up in person in London for Notting Hill Carnival.
As for the film, it was shot with the help of a trusted long-time collaborator of Bigfoot, Jonjames Oxberry-Hogg, in Japan, where Bigfoot had previously lived for a year back in 2011. The pair returned specifically for this project, to accompany the fantastic twelve-track album with a stunning visual element. They began filming almost the minute they touched down and maintained that momentum for the entire two months, sometimes out of the house for 36 hours at a time with no sleep!
There were more travails to come in post-production. Kid Eastah, a local artist who featured in the opening track had to have all of their shots removed from the movie as they entered into the Japanese corporate world which frowns upon people having their faces on YouTube and the public sphere outside of their profession. This presented a serious headache given his prominence in the shoot. The new cut evokes a fittingly empty feeling, focusing more heavily on the Japanese commute to work, the very same machine that forced Kid Eastah’s removal from the film in the first place.
Despite the trials and tribulations faced to create this film, the results will not disappoint - this is truly unlike anything we have seen or heard. Together, music and film create a multi-sensory experience for the viewer/listener. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled.
The first single from ‘Duszt’ called 'Migi Ni Hidari Ni’ is out March 5th, and there’s also a video dropping for the song ‘Hands’ on 19th February! Full release is May Day.
