Kascarade are a 5 piece band* formed in August 2010 that hail from Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Their sound draws on their wide range of influences from the 60′s – 90′s Rock and Pop genres. The audience can go from experiencing up tempo, beat driven tracks to slower paced acoustic/piano combo’s back to back, making for an especially varied and melodic live sound.
We caught up with the band at 'Drummers-r-us', where they were busy racing around the aisles, poking, probing and quizzing a bunch of stick donning wannabes, we grabbed a beer and sat down to chat about meeting the queen, clever gorillas and Super-Ted, here's how we got on....
Please introduce the band and your music in one sentence....
*Kascarade are currently a 4 piece band searching for a new drummer! Based in Bradford, West Yorkshire and our music is all about our lives, our hopes and our dreams!
You’re called Kascarade, how did you come about choosing this name?
The name sounded good! There is no such word as Kascarade! It doesnt exist, so it's quite simply unique!! But to be honest we were playing with words and came up with it by default really!
‘Rise Again’ has been made in to a music video, who directed this and what made you choose this one to be a single?
The video was filmed and directed by P13 Digital Media who we work with on all of our videos. he track was recorded last year so was hanging about in our back catalogue and we thought that it was quite an energetic and catchy tune so decided to do a video that really caught the feel of the song.
Tell me a fascinating fact about you or one of your band members?
Hmmm, there's probably a few that we won't admit to!! But one true fact is that our lead singer Maf was awarded a British Empire medal by the Queen last year for services to the local community in Bradford!
Your latest single ‘Rise Again’ features Julie E. Gordon, how did this collaboration happen?
Julie is friends with the studio where we recorded the track (Calder Recordings) and basically she was shown the tune and asked if she would like to sing on it!! It's really great that we had someone like Julie on the song as we are all fans of people like the happy mondays who Julie as sang for so it was our pleasure to feature her on a Kascarade tune!
How and when did you decide that you wanted to be in a band?
Depends which band member you ask! But we decided four years ago that we definitely wanted to be in Kascarade!! It was a new venture and we all had previous in other bands and got together to start something new!
What is the best advice you ever received and who was it from?
Just be happy!! (a wise old lass in Bradford city centre!)
You support many causes such as Blue Lamp Foundation, please explain the work they do?
This support was a couple of years ago now, we did a few fundraisers....the BLF help to support emergency service personnel who have been injured serving the public and who need help with their recovery or life beyond serving others.....
Would you rather live with a dog that sings lullabies or a gorilla that can do sign language? explain your answer
Well, singing dogs are common place these days! just watch Britain's Got Talent and there's always some character with a dog that sings! We're yet to see a gorilla that does signing so bring on the silver back!!
in your opinion, what is the best album/record ever released and why?
There's so many!! It's hard to say, but The White Album by the Beatles has gotta be mentioned up there with the greats just for the variation of music and songs on there!
Have you had any ‘Spinal Tap’ moments? if yes, please share!
None to date!! well maybe.....
Do you own a record that you wouldn’t like to admit you have?
Yes!! Many, but we're not gonna admit to which ones!!
Is there something you would like to tell each of the band members that you haven’t told them before?
They're a very open bunch so there's not much to tell!! Maybe they need to be told that we're all just players in the game! So keep playing boys!
What classic song would you have liked to have recorded and why?
Apart from The Frog Song!! There's so many classics, but 'Three Little Birds' by Bob Marley would be up there! Simply coz it's such a classic and who doesn't know it? It's such a care free tune that it makes ya wanna just lay back and enjoy the day!
You supported Simon Fowler from ‘Ocean Colour Scene’, what was that experience like?
That was cool, we're all fans of 'OCS' and Simon Fowler, he's a great songwriter and singer, the band have met him a few times now and he's always been a sound bloke!
Name three people (alive, dead or fictional) that you would like as dinner party guests?
Richard Pryor, Ghandi, & Super-Ted
There are many good bands and musicians out there, who would you ask the readers of musicmuso to look out for?
Kascarade!! (wink wink)
If you could describe your music in the form of a fictional character, who would it be?
ooooohh need to think more on that one! pass!!
Do you think we can ever live in a world where a chicken can cross the road without having its motives questioned?
Never!! a chicken should always be questioned!!
What are your plans for the remainder of 2014?
Keep writing new music and working hard! Get more new songs together for our debut album, and basically play and perform to as many people as we can, and make sure we go into 2015 with a great big hurrah!!!
