We first saw Kitty, Daisy & Lewis when they played in Exeter a couple of years ago, we instantly fell in love with their music and their live show is a sight to behold. We saw that they were booked to play at Beautiful Days Festival and thought it was about time we had a quick chat to see what they've been up to lately. We caught up with Daisy Durham to chat about babies, new material and what it is they love about festivals....
Firstly, for those people who aren’t familiar with your band, please tell us a bit about yourselves….
We’re three siblings who started playing music since before we can remember. We were always surrounded by music at home. My mum had a great record collection. A lot of 60’s and 70’s stuff. My dad was also always singing and playing guitar, so I guess we just picked music up naturally. We never had a moment where we thought of being in a band. When we we at the ages of (Kitty) 8, (Lewis) 10, (Me) 12. Our parents used to take us to a pub on Sunday that had live bands on every week. One day we got asked to get up and play something and from then on we were being asked to do gigs in various clubs and Pubs. We’re still going after releasing 4 albums. Our dad also plays on stage with us and my mum played Bass with us, up until a few months ago. Now my partner Dan plays bass for us. Keeping it in the family I guess. Our music has always been a big mix of styles and feels. We all swap around instruments depending on what works best for the song. For instance we all play drums, but have 3 very different ways of playing. We also all write the songs.
We last saw you live at The Cavern in Exeter a couple of years back, what have you been up to since then?
Wow that seems like ages ago. A lot has happened since then. We’ve been touring a lot. Been to Japan, Australia, done a UK and European tour. Released our fourth album SUPERSCOPE so much has happened that I can’t remember everything!
Standing in a field watching bands has become a popular pastime for us Brits, what do you think it is about music festivals that appeals to so many people?
I think that music festivals have become a holiday for a lot of people. Something people look forward to all year. A lot of people go to festivals even if they’re not into the bands too much. It seems to be more about the atmosphere and having a wild time with your mates and meeting new people and being able to have a dance as well. Obviously all festivals are very different though. I’ve always preferred the smaller, intimate ones.
Please share your top three tips on how to get the most out of a three day music festival.
- Try not the plan too much, you’ll never be satisfied. Just relax and go with the flow.
- Make sure you have some sunglasses. Even if the suns not out, they’re a life saver when you wake up hungover, also covers up the bags.
- There’s usually always a more hidden, less busier toilet area where there’s not massive queues and they’re not covered in shit! So don’t just follow the crowd and go to the obvious toilets.
What is your preferred tipple at a festival?
When the Suns out, nothing beats a freezing cold pint, but after a few I get a bit fed up of beer, especially drinking out of those flimsy plastic cups which I’m constantly squeezing and spilling everywhere. I usually go for whisky or red wine, which is what we have on our backstage Rider. To be honest though, once I’m pissed I’ll drink whatever’s going!
And best hangover cure?
Borocca, coffee, bacon and egg sandwich and then a pint.
You’re playing at Beautiful Days this year, are you planning on sticking around after your set? If so, which of the other acts are you hoping to catch whilst you’re there?
Unfortunately we’re not staying, we have to drive back to London. Would have liked to check out The Skids, but that’s on the Saturday.
Your latest record Superscope was released last September, how are the new tracks being received? Any plans for new music in the near future?
It seems to have gone down well. We need to get back to writing some new stuff, it’s been a bit harder than usual. Everyone had other things too that they’re getting on with and I have a baby now but the plan is to get working on some new stuff as soon as possible
Please Please PLEASE would you include “Don’t Make a Fool Out of Me” in your Beautiful Days setlist, it’s one of our favourite KD&L tracks and would make our day! (feel free to dedicate it to us if you like!)
Glad you like it. You’ll be pleased to know that “Don’t Make a Fool Out Of Me” is part of the set we’re are doing at the moment.
We’ve had some stunningly good weather in the UK over the past 6 weeks, please predict the forecast for Beautiful Days using your music instead of sun/rain/snow etc.
On the left part of the stage there’ll be a heavy down pour of bass. In the middle part expect some thunderous drums. There’ll be spells of very hot heat so make sure you bring a pint with you to stay hydrated!

I don’t think they should! Just kidding. I think we’re just different from a lot of other bands. We’re a good mixture of rock, pop, punk, ska and rock n roll. So if you’re in mood for rocking you’re socks of. Come and pay us a visit.
