Laura Mvula lends her powerhouse vocals to the advertising campaign for Guy Ritchie’s new action adventure ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ which opened nationwide on August 14. Written by Tobias Jesso Jr and chosen by Guy specifically, ‘You Work For Me’ is the first new material that Laura has released since her critically acclaimed debut album in 2013.
Guy says, "It's not easy to find a new song which matches the power of the classic Nina Simone and Roberta Flack pieces in the film. Laura Mvula has done it with 'You Work For Me."
Laura’s instantly recognisable and stirring vocals are the perfect complement to this stylish spy adventure. It is the breathtaking comeback that all fans of Laura have been waiting for and a sign of exciting things to come.
After an astonishing 2014 which saw her nominated for two BRIT Awards(British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act),shortlisted for the Mercury prize and receiving a Ivor Novello Awards nomination, Laura has been in NYC working hard in the studio writing her second album which is due to be released in 2016.
Laura says, “Being asked to sing in support of a huge movie like this has been pretty amazing and scary all rolled into one. It’s such an incredible film and such an honour to be part of it! The song ‘You Work For Me’ was a very late addition to this movie campaign - Guy Ritchie heard it and loved it and it’s now being used to promote the film. When we got the news that it was being used we had a dance in the studio...Happy days.”
