Few British bands have carved their place in the country’s musical and cultural fabric quite like Levellers. Nearly four decades on from their formation, the Brighton folk‑rock icons remain a vital, fiercely independent force — and in 2026 they’re marking a major milestone. Their seminal, platinum‑selling second album Levelling the Land turns 35, and the band are celebrating the only way they know how: by taking it back to the people.
This autumn, Levellers head out on a UK and European headline tour, revisiting the songs that helped define a generation while digging deep into their extensive catalogue of fan favourites. The run begins in Köln on Friday 16 October and wraps up at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on Saturday 21 November, with The Meffs joining as support on all dates and Neds Atomic Dustbin appearing as special guests on select shows.
Bassist Jeremy Cunningham sums up the mood perfectly: “This year we celebrate 35 years of Levelling the Land! So we’re looking forward to getting out on the road and playing some of our favourite songs from that album — plus some other classics too. We’ll see you there!”
Released in 1991, Levelling the Land remains one of the most important British albums of its era — a record that captured the frustration, hope, and rebellious spirit of a country in flux. Its anthems — One Way, 15 Years, Far From Home, The Game, Liberty Song, Riverflow, Boatman, and the blistering Battle of the Beanfield — became rallying cries for a generation disillusioned with Thatcherism and hungry for something real.
The album’s impact rippled far beyond the charts. It helped reshape the UK’s musical landscape, paving the way for a wave of counter‑cultural voices that would soon sit alongside Britpop heavyweights like Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Suede and Supergrass. Levellers followed it with the Number 1 album Zeitgeist, cementing their place as one of the country’s most enduring and outspoken bands.
Today, their influence can still be felt — in grassroots activism, in the DNA of countless contemporary artists, and in the thriving festival culture they helped nurture. Their own Beautiful Days Festival, now in its 23rd year, continues to be a cornerstone of the UK festival calendar, this year featuring Super Furry Animals, Madness and Levellers themselves as headliners - More info HERE
