Ah, the Old Firehouse: Devon Mist, warm lights, people happily dancing - and in the case of LionStar, a very happy bride-to-be hopping on stage, congratulated by the band with a song dedication.

LionStar are Firehouse regulars, bringing their blend of reggae, world and rock to the small but mighty stage often enough; so if any Exeter folk missed them this time, don't worry - they'll be back. On Saturday 29th August, the band were as energetic as ever, their busy summer of tours and festival headlines clearly not wearing down this six-piece.

Looked after by sound lady Laura Neill (herself a sax-player of local psyche rock band, The Azimuth Coordinator), the band played their usual loved tracks, like 'Babylon Matrix', with its heavy bass and rock-steady rhythm. As ever, their song 'Dance' had the room on their feet, the bass, drums and infectiously positive attitude of the band itself filling the room.

'Rock Up A Vibe' is another track that has the same effect, and that Saturday, frontman Ron welcomed the crowd to join in while lead guitarist Martin led the song into a rock solo, sliding into a heavier and heavier sound. 'Positive Vibrations' is another favourite, with dub-beats given by MC, Ashley, while the didgeridoo is skillfully played by percussionist Bruce. The didgeridoo circles through the entire song, ending on a slow, ambient note.

A band that sings about love, life, and happiness, LionStar are sure to keep bringing summer warmth no matter what day of the year. Keep an eye out!
