*Bern, Switzerland - July 12, 2024* – Emerging artist SAVIOUR is set to make a significant mark in the music industry with his debut EP “CRASH 99,” which has just dropped. Known for his unique blend of modern R&B and electronic pop, SAVIOUR’s sound is both innovative and deeply personal, drawing inspiration from a variety of influential artists.
Influences and Sound
SAVIOUR cites Frank Ocean and Moses Sumney as lyrical inspirations, admiring their distinctive storytelling approaches. “Sonically, Labrinth, Rosalia, and SZA have significantly shaped the way I listen to music,” SAVIOUR reveals, emphasizing the eclectic mix that informs his musical style.
The Story Behind “WHAT ABOUT FLOWERS?”
His focus single, "WHAT ABOUT FLOWERS?," captures the complexity of modern relationships. “When I wrote 'WHAT ABOUT FLOWERS?' I was in a situationship that, while passionate sexually, wasn't fulfilling me romantically. I believe many people can relate to that yearning for something more meaningful. It's like, 'Oh, you can get me whiskey, and we can have all this fun, but where are the flowers? Where are the deeper conversations?' Flowers symbolize true love to me because you have to nurture them,” SAVIOUR explains.
Creative Process
The song’s impactful hook, “bottle of whiskey, what about flowers,” emerged from a real-life conversation. “The phrase 'What about flowers?' was born during a phone call with a close friend. I asked, 'What happened to romance?' and she replied, 'Yeah, like what happened to flowers?' That struck a chord with me. I often write my songs based on a single word or phrase, and those words perfectly captured my situation. It hit me hard, and I thought, 'Yeah, that's f**ed up. Let me write about this.' What you hear in this song is a true-to-life depiction of those events,” SAVIOUR recalls.
Describing the creative process, SAVIOUR shares, “This one was a bit unusual. I reworked a song I had written months ago but never used or liked. However, the beat and its deep, sultry vibe stayed with me. When I found a fitting theme for the lyrics, the song practically wrote itself. It was finished in just two hours.”
Musical Journey
Transitioning from rap to singing, SAVIOUR’s soundscapes now reflect a rich tapestry of R&B with hip-hop influences. “When I first got into music, I was all about rapping. It took some time to get comfortable with my singing voice, but once I did, it became my main focus. That's where my influences really started to shine. I've always been inspired by music that blends unique sounds and elements from different genres. 'WHAT ABOUT FLOWERS?' is a great example of my musical journey—where I've been and where I'm heading,” he states.
The EP “CRASH 99”
SAVIOUR’s debut EP, “CRASH 99,” promises to take listeners on an emotional journey. “To me, 'Tipsy' and 'WHAT ABOUT FLOWERS?' encapsulate the essence of CRASH 99. However, the EP takes listeners on a journey—from soft to hard, fast to slow, vulnerable to cocky. It's a crash of diverse moods and vibes, yet all tied together by a common thread. As my debut, it tells the perfect story, offering a glimpse into my colorful little world that I'm very proud of,” SAVIOUR teases.
Collaborations and Production
The EP features production by EVAL and mixing and mastering by Kadjali Kaba. The final track includes a collaboration with artist Ivorrie, further enhancing the EP’s dynamic range.
