LIVE: Gene’s triumphant homecoming - Extra shows added after lightning-fast sell-out....

August 26, 2025

Tickets for Gene’s reunion shows vanished in under ten minutes—and now the indie-rock legends are giving fans a second chance. This autumn’s sold-out comeback dates in Leeds, Sheffield and London are just the opening chapter. With their beloved debut album Olympian turning 30, Martin Rossiter, Matt James, Steve Mason and Kevin Miles are gearing up to cover new ground in Nottingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Dublin and Manchester next March.

Late last year, a nudge from Creation Records’ Alan McGee and manager Kevin Fitzgerald sparked the idea of playing together again. The quartet finally met up in December—probably for the first time since 2004—and the old banter roared back to life. “There were quips flying across the pub table,” Matt James laughs. “Within minutes we were a band again. Next step: make it musically spectacular.” So they locked themselves in a rehearsal room days before this announcement, polishing each riff and hammering out that signature Gene sound.

Marking three decades since the release of their seminal debut Olympian, Gene are set to celebrate the album’s legacy with a setlist that blends cherished classics like “Sleep Well Tonight” with deeper cuts for longtime fans. These will be the band’s first live performances since 2004, reuniting Martin Rossiter’s soaring vocals with Steve Mason’s unmistakable guitar work. The choice of venues—intimate, characterful spaces like Rock City and the Barrowlands—promises a visceral connection between band and audience, far removed from the detachment of stadium shows. But this isn’t just a trip down memory lane. From the moment the four members sat down together, the conversation turned not to nostalgia, but to ambition: “How do we make this brilliant?” That spark, that shared creative hunger, is what’s driving Gene’s return to the stage.

Here’s what you need to know to get your tickets.

  • Venue pre-sale begins 10 am Wednesday 27th August

  • General sale opens 10 am Friday 29th August

  • Tickets via each venue’s box office or www.geneofficial.com

Set your alarms—the last time they sold tickets this fast, fans were left refreshing pages for hours.

With Olympian still sounding as vital as ever—and the rest of their canon ripe for rediscovery—these shows promise more than a trip down memory lane. It’s Martin daydreaming about “waggle my – slightly larger – ass on the stage one more time,” and a band united by a genuine hunger to push each other musically.

Whether you were there the first time around or you’re discovering Gene now, mark your calendar. This isn’t just a reunion: it’s the next chapter in a story that’s far from over.
