Guys born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire who play in a band called McCarthy Vigil want to show you some songs, collected and released through Of National Importance Records in the form of a self-titled EP which they couldn’t agree on a title for other than “Dog Beans” but that sounded ridiculous.
The EP comes off the back of their track “Chinese Candle” also released through Of Nash on the compilation EP “Pareidolia” featuring other local acts. The three songs were all recorded/mixed/mastered by Brett Jackson (Studio 24 – 24 Records) and McCarthy Vigil (this thing being written about) at Studio 24 in Barnsley over the course of probably 6 – 8 months, with additional vocals and artwork provided by Annie J. Winder.
McCarthy Vigil began playing instruments at the same time in the same room as one another in 2010. Because of this, Andy Sutcliffe (Vocals/Guitar), Dave Oldfield (Guitar/Vocals), Jason Bagshaw (Guitar), Joe Robinson (Bass) and Chris Kellett (Drums), can make long smooth melodies penetrate your head gaps, whilst your body holes are pounded with syrupy rhythm seeds. They have played up and down the country to good strong crowds, in good strong venues with excellent support work (both a reference to their support of other acts and the general construction of buildings being outstanding). They have much they want to show you in the future.
Of National Importance Records is Barnsley’s longest named label. Formed in 2009 it has released music by Alvarez Kings, The Exhibition and Aztec Doll.
