Spencer J Harrison and Libbie Linton are Mideau, a blend of two musical personalities. They hail from Salt Lake City and have released ‘Way with words’, a four track EP that gently caresses the cranium, providing some much needed easy listening for the soul.
There is a melancholic feel that is reminiscent of EELS’ album Beautiful Freak with a gentle uneasiness throughout the four tracks that is mesmerizing, a darker feel to what American indie duo ‘She & Him’ (Zooey Descanel & M Ward www.sheandhim.com) would put out for their listeners.
Way with Words is a haunting affair with the electro sound that assists Libbie Linton’s dark and tender vocals, it’s art rock that has a new canvas. The second track Benny is faster with an electro drum-beat which adds substance to the EP.
The stand out tune by far is Hejduk, which allows Spencer J Harrison to add a little more to the vocals, which is another great addition to the working of this EP. A stark reminder of the darkness of the Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell albums that has the ‘heaven and hell’ duelling. The final track is an impressive remix of Hejduk by Faded Paper Figures, which kicks out more of a rock sound.
Mideau are easy on the ear, sending neurotic waves gently down the mental stream, a lovely antidote to the hectic world in which we survive.
