Motörhead never did anniversaries for the sake of nostalgia — but Orgasmatron turning 40 feels less like a milestone and more like a resurrection. On November 6th, BMG releases the 40th Anniversary Edition of one of the most singular, divisive and fiercely beloved records in the Motörhead catalogue. It’s a celebration of an album that split opinion in 1986, shaped the band’s future, and still sounds like nothing else in heavy music.

Released in 1986, Orgasmatron arrived during a period of upheaval and reinvention. Lemmy, Phil Campbell, Würzel and Pete Gill were pushing into heavier, darker territory — not abandoning Motörhead’s speed and aggression, but sharpening it into something more brutal and atmospheric.

Tracks like ‘Deaf Forever’, ‘Built For Speed’ and the towering title track became staples of the band’s live arsenal. Beneath the controversy around its production, fans found a record with a strange, snarling magic: part hard rock, part heavy metal, part punk, and entirely Motörhead.

Four decades later, Orgasmatron stands as one of the band’s most distinctive statements — a cult favourite that has only grown in stature.

The 40th Anniversary Edition digs deep into the album’s history, presenting Orgasmatron in two powerful forms:

Bill Laswell’s original mix, remastered and cut at half speed from the original tapes
A brand-new remix and remaster from longtime Motörhead collaborator Cameron Webb

The Motörhead team describe the remix as an idea born from late-night fan debate — a “what if?” that became irresistible. Laswell’s stylised production has long been part of the album’s identity, but Lemmy and Phil famously felt some of the bite had been softened. Webb, who helmed six Motörhead studio albums, was the natural choice to revisit the tapes.

And he didn’t hesitate.

“My brother introduced me to Orgasmatron when I was 14,” Webb says. “It was like the devil coming through my cassette tape — and I loved it.”

Webb approached the remix with reverence, not revisionism. He wanted to preserve the wild, messy character of Laswell and engineer Jason Corsaro’s work while imagining what Lemmy and Phil might have asked him to do: more bass here, sharper guitars there, more of the band’s raw force revealed.
