Southern California post‑hardcore heavyweights Movements are entering a new chapter, one defined by emotional depth, sonic expansion, and a sharpened sense of identity. Their fourth album, Happier Now, lands 4th September 2026 via Fearless Records, and the band have marked the moment with the release of Separate, a brooding, slow‑burning track that closes the record with unexpected intensity.
It’s a fitting introduction to a project that pushes Movements further than ever before.
For Happier Now, Movements reunited with Grammy‑winning producer Will Yip, a collaborator so integral to their sound that vocalist Patrick Miranda refers to him as “the fifth member of the band.” Yip’s influence is woven throughout the record, from the syncopated pulse of opener Pulse to the widescreen textures and climactic twists of Separate.
This is Movements at their most ambitious. The band stretch their post‑hardcore foundations into new territory, experimenting with time signatures, layering unexpected sonic textures, and merging pop sensibilities with the emotional grit fans have always connected with.
Despite its optimistic name, Happier Now is steeped in emotional honesty. Miranda’s lyrics explore the uncomfortable truth that progress doesn’t erase the past, especially when depression is part of the story.
He explains that while he’s in a better place than before, the darkness never fully disappears. That tension is at the heart of the album, surfacing in tracks like Ill At Ease, which channels early Jimmy Eat World at their most melodic, and in the title track, where the deceptively simple question “Are you happier now with your happier sounds?” hides a deeper emotional reckoning.
Movements have always been a band fans turn to for vulnerability, and this record leans into that connection with clarity and conviction.
With Movements returning to Warped Tour this summer, Happier Now feels like a milestone. The band who once looked up to the scene are now shaping it, evolving into statesmen of the post‑hardcore community while still holding onto the raw emotional core that defined their early work.
The struggle never sounded so sweet.
