Yes folks, we are now into February and dare I say it, the evenings are already seeming to be stretching a little longer, I won’t say that things are warming up yet as that would be a blatant lie, I woke this morning and it was 2 degrees centipede, that’s cold, not as cold as some folk have it but still cold….
So, a new month, a new playlist to look forward to. I have dug deep to curate a killer list of 9 bands and artists from all over the world that have some incredible music to offer. Gavin McGee
Gavin McGee is a singer/songwriter and producer, making music with his little brother Trevor McGee and neighbour Camron Lawrence. Gavin plays guitar and keys with styles influenced by Bon Iver, Citizen Cope, Johnathan Richman, and The Black Keys. Camron is a producer and multi-instrumentalist. Trevor is a guitar player.
Gavin is no stranger to performing and has served as the opening act to Mahali of ‘Twiddle’ (2019), followed by performing alongside Pete Francis of ‘Dispatch’ and local band the ‘SoundWaves’ during a live stream event (2020). Today, Gavin has made 40+ live appearances showcasing his music. The now college senior plans to tour in the next year.
The ‘Introductions’ EP was produced in Gavin's college dorm studio and his neighbour Camron Lawrence's house. Cam wrote and recorded bass on Gavin's track 'always.' and lead guitar on 'Troublesome'. Gavin's little brother Trevor is featured playing lead guitar on 10 Reasons. The two recorded 10 Reasons at their parent's house over winter break between semesters.
I laughed out loud when I heard that Gavin received a ‘noise complaint’ and was fined $50 when he was recording the vocals to 'Troublesome' in his dorm room, so please, if you enjoy his music, please dig deep and purchase a copy of the EP via his Bandcamp (https://gavinmcgee.bandcamp.com/album/introductions) page, if only to contribute towards the cost of the fine!

Miss Torsion
‘Love Parasite’ is the latest offering from Miss Torsion, a musician who was fortunate enough to be young in the 80’s and includes acts such as Bauhaus, Christian Death, Virgin Prunes and Killing Joke amongst her heroes. Other genres have crept into her filing cabinet over the years and she now draws upon a healthy dose of heavy metal, desert rock and alternative rock acts
The vocals for ‘Love Parasite’ were recorded at Soundfarm Studio by Anna murphy, who, despite being a wonderful sound engineer, is also an excellent musician herself. It is also noted that Marco Jencarelli makes the BEST pasta sauce, if you’re ever in the area, hit him up and I’m sure he’ll knock you a batch out at cost price!
The track was meant to be a lot more blues based but ended up more ‘cheerful and crazy’, something that turned out for the best in our opinion!
Live shows may be some time off as the band are waiting to acquire enough tracks to be able to play a live set but in the past, a previous band Cell Division, supported HIM and also played at the Wave Gothic Treffen in Leipzig, Germany.
Miss Torsion is an act to keep a close eye on, to aid you, here’s a bunch of social media pages, go along, give them a like and keep up to date with their musical happenings.

Psychedelic Revolution
Chris Zhang (aka Psychedelic Revolution) is excited to announce his new single ‘I Will Be Free’. Traditionally, he is used to creating soul music but this folk detour particularly caught his attention.
Sung in his higher register and featuring a jaunty rhythm with a few frills in places, this is a huge stylistic difference in how the sparse production wouldn’t normally fit with a folk track but somehow lends itself rather well here.
Usually accompanied with an army of violins and cellos, he decided to flush them out and instead, use his voice and guitar to deliver the message.
With its Britpop sounding chorus and powerful bridge, this is a track well worth checking out.
Keep up to date with Psychedelic Revolution at the following sites.

Ruby Weapon
‘American Court Temps’ is the new 7 track album from Asheville, US based artist Dave Burr (aka Ruby Weapon).
He began writing and recording various songs during the pandemic and this culminated in the collection of songs that make up this debut album. Influences range from Radiohead, Deerhoof, Cocteau Twins, Spencer Krug, Mark Kozelek, James Blake & Animal Collective and it’s clear to say that elements of these bleed through into his music.
What makes Ruby Weapon unique is his DIY approach to everything from the creation of the music, to the art and video clips connected with the music. The album was recorded in his home studio using electronic drums and various amplifier and instrument plugins in Logic Pro.
He plans to use this EP as a tool to find like-minded musicians to create music with and also to submit to any curators who might see potential in these rough tracks.
Asked to explain some of the tracks on the album, he added, “I wrote ‘Matador Song’ about the anxieties that I've had in life holding me back from pursuing various goals. I tried to use the metaphor of a matador tricking and occupying a bull's attention to relate how it feels to be solely focused on fears of failure and doubts rather than attempting to overcome these things. I wrote the song ‘Saints’ about conflicted feelings I had with suppressing my emotional and creative side while otherwise benefiting from taking medications for depression. I tried to use a metaphor of religion and ‘God’ as adhering to social norms, taking the pills and ‘being a good boy’. Keeping with a serious theme, the song ‘Oscar Mayer’ is about hot dogs…..
In closing, he added that, “These songs are intended to be a ‘raw snapshot’ of things to come once I'm able to truly create the content that I'd like to”. If this album is a ‘rough snapshot’, I wait with baited breath to hear the finished result after he’s been in a studio to get his material professional mixed and mastered, definitely an act to keep an eye on in the future!
