It’s only been a few days since #7 of our ‘on the radar’ playlist went live but looking at my inbox, I’ll be pumping these out on a regular basis until I catch up with myself!
I have received new music from bands and artists all over the world and it is a joy to see that despite where people are based, they are as passionate and enthusiastic about creating music as I am about pushing it out as far and wide as I possibly can.
The playlist is below, under that, you’ll see bios from some of the featured acts along with their social media details, if you liked what you heard, head to their sites, drop a few comments, buy some merch but mostly, show them some love!
Enjoy!
SISYPHES
Sisyphes is the new, Margate-based project by former La Houle guitarist and songwriter Geoffrey Papin. Their unique part-pop, part-dreamy and definitely alternative sound features elements of the avant pop music of Stereolab, Broadcast and Julien Gasc, wavy guitars and synths inherited from shoegaze, and touch of French synthwave.
Fresh after notable support slots with accomplished artists Virginia Wing and Lætitia Sadier (Sterolab), and after a year full of challenges and loss, Sisyphes are preparing to re-emerge with songs that showcase their bluntly intimate narratives. Their new EP ‘Cargo Cult’, named after a song by Serge Gainsbourg, is partly a creative reimagining of their debut self-titled EP, partly an outpour from personal turmoil, and lastly a prelude to the upcoming debut album ‘Deviant Pop’.
Speaking about the EP, singer-songwriter Geoffrey Papin describes it as a “one man bedroom recording created in the glooming caves of mental illness, exploring recent solitude and heartbreak”, the recording process akin to art therapy. Further exploring the uncomfortably personal of the album he questions “I’m not sure people are ready to hear a man crying and externalising his feelings, his weakness, talking about mental health, without any filter, to the world”.

SECRET CIGARETTE
Secret Cigarette started in Providence, RI as a band project influenced by nature and the unknown. They record with mostly underused vintage store-found instruments and hand-made auxiliary percussion, in addition to pedals and effects from local artists and small music companies.
Having toured extensively with other bands, the members of Secret Cigarette aim to keep a low personal profile and you won't find their "names" attached to their former accolades. During covid lockdown, band members began recording and exploring their instrumental strengths.
Some of the band members have yet to meet each other, though they hope to change that soon.
Follow them on Spotify for more music as it lands.

TRANNIEBOI
Trannieboi’s long-awaited follow-up to his summer release, Halfcast Quasimodo is here. As the days grow shorter, the nights grow longer for dancing. With “WOTZ UR NUMBAH”, Trannieboi takes us into the dark of the club, it’s loud, but manages to sit low in the throat, with long-time collaborator/producer Shurk’s drum and bass meant to be felt as much as heard on the dance floor.
As the first single of a new EP, “WOTZ UR NUMBAH,” is the newest evolution of the brash and clever hyper-pop project from Jolliff Seville. This iteration of the project borrows heavily from the grime and dubstep linages native to England’s southwest. “WOTZ UR NUMBAH” is the first in a series of affectionate disruptions in contemporary gay British pop music.
Featuring a verse from another long-time collaborator, Gabe Swarbrick, “WOTZ UR NUMBAH” honours that linage: the two grew up together in rural Somerset and have since developed musical careers, mutual aid projects, and more in London’s queer enclaves. It’s a single that heralds in a new age for queer dance music in the U.K.: one where categories between musical traditions and queer experiences collapse into beautiful sonic entanglements – not unlike the way bodies and styles commune on the club floor.

THE RAMBLE
Full of energy, big choruses, pure stadium-ready rock, their show has a wide array of moods to keep things interesting leaving behind an electrifying presence and proves that true rock music can transcend the generation.
The song (Heartbreaker) was born in London, while Roland Dan (vocals) was living there. After moving to the US and working with Sergio Ripa (guitar player) and Colin Myers (keys) it all started making sense and the song "Heartbreaker" started taking its current shape. Hard hitter Grady Steel (drummer) was recruited to record drums. "Heartbreaker" and a couple of other songs were recorded at The Gradwell House in New Jersey with Matt Weber. "Heartbreaker" was chosen to be the first single and first release of the newly formed band The Ramble.
Keep an eye on their Spotify account for more new music as it lands.
